Schilling Out Until All Star Break

Featured Replies

The Red Sox have been hesitant to publicly set a timetable for Curt Schilling's return to the rotation, but the club reportedly does have a projected return date in mind.

Sources told the Boston Herald that Schilling was told he could need up to 12 weeks to recover from an ankle injury, meaning Boston could be without its ace until the All-Star Break in mid-July.

The Red Sox were originally given a 2-12 week window for Schilling's return, according to the paper's sources, and are hopeful Schilling's recovery will skew to the shorter end of that scale. However, the club is unlikely to rush Schilling, since the pitcher acknowledged that his current stint on the disabled list might have resulted from trying to come back too soon from his off-season ankle surgery and rehab.

Schilling, who has been on the DL since April 29, called his injury a precursor to a stress fracture and had been in a protective boot until last week when he began to play catch without it.

The Red Sox's team doctor said he was "very encouraged" by Schilling's progress when the boot was removed last Friday.

When asked if he was ruling out the possibility that Schilling would pitch for the Red Sox in May, Gill said, "I'm very honestly not ruling him out for anything. ... It is a day-by-day type of thing."

Schilling was injured April 23 when he bruised a bone in his right ankle while pitching at Tampa Bay. At that time, general manager Theo Epstein said Schilling would wear a removable boot for two weeks.

He had surgery on the same ankle last November after pitching with a different injury to it in the AL Championship Series and World Series.

In three starts this season, Schilling is 1-2 with an 8.15 ERA.

Ill be shocked if he is a contributor to the Sox down the stretch this year, his career as an above average pitcher might be over.

he is paying the price from last October

but you know he would do it again if he had to

Damn, I hope he gets better soon.

Maybe a switch to a reliever might be in his best interest, though I don't think Curt settles for that without giving starting a go again.

Now he can talk more idiotic smack to La Russa.. Yippie!

Maybe La Russa can throw Edgar Renteria under a bus again!

"I?m surprised. I don?t know why he (La Russa) said that. Maybe they want me back or something. I?m done with St. Louis already, and I play with Boston right now. It?s my house right now, my family. I don?t feel (special) pressure (here). When I play, I feel pressure everyday to be successful. That?s why I?m the kind of player I am."

- Edgar Renteria

Isn't Schilling kinda throwing Renteria under the bus a little too in your sig?

No doubt Schill is a great player and I would love to have him on my team, I just don't like how he has a comment for everything and everyone. It's okay to have an opinion on everything, everyone does.....I just wish he would keep his to himself a little more often.

I still think he will be dominant, his arm is fine. This type of injury needs rest and he shouldn't try to come back to early like he did this year.

- Edgar Renteria

Or maybe Schilling overreacted. And maybe La Russa knows Edgar more than Schilling ever will..

As far as Edgar's comment about wanting him back.. Nah that's ok..

Eckstein: .299 AVG, 2 HR, 15 RBI, 24 Runs, .368 OBP, 8 Errors, .965 FLD %

Renteria: .246 AVG, 2 HR, 14 RBI, 21 Runs, .296 OBP, 8 Errors, .953 FLD %

Infact I do miss Edgar's range but Eckstein has done more than Renteria has done and for much cheaper.

Had we also kept Renteria we wouldnt have Mulder or Grudzielanek.

Schilling spews only hot air as he blasts La Russa

It's amazing to me that there's anything objectionable in what I said," La Russa said Wednesday. "I have no idea what Schilling was hearing, reading, thinking, saying. I know this, Schilling is not helping Edgar. The more he talks about it, the more attention he brings to it, and Edgar doesn't want to be the center of attention. If he wants to help Edgar, he'll low-key it."

As for being a jilted lover ...

"If you go back to the beginning of the offseason, I made public comments where, I had strong doubts whether Edgar could be part of our team because of economics," La Russa said. "I said our priority was pitching. I said that consistently. Here's our chunk of money, and we had to spend our money on pitching. And so, at risk were Edgar and Mike Matheny. I didn't expect that we could afford to sign them. I didn't think we could afford to sign Edgar, and we were making plans to play without him. And if we had signed Edgar, we couldn't have traded for (pitcher) Mark Mulder."

No way do I say I agree with TLR and what he's saying but what the hell is Curt's problem? As far as I've read and heard La Russa only said the truth about Edgar.

Eh, doesnt matter.

I am so tired of Schilling and his mouth. That article was hysterical and LaRussa made some great points in his retort.

Passion, I know Schilling is your boy and on a great team but he over steps his boundry alot. I don't know how you can be so tired of hearing all the stuff on Dwyane Wade when it is never generated by him or from his mouth, yet can defend Schilling constantly being talked about and now it is always dealing with controversy.

Sure Schilling has had a long, great career, but so have many other players and just about all of them keep their mouth shut, especially compared to Curt.

One of the great things about Wade and why people, especially the national media loves him is that he is quiet, unassuming and respectful.

Did Curt really think by making his Renteria comments he would be helping Edgar get out of his 'corner' and out of the microscope? Recently he has taken on Pinella dna La Russa, 2 great managers who have not even managed a team he has been on. Does he really need to take on every great manager there is out there? He is acting like a clown. Schilling needs to concentrate more on getting his ass healthy then fighting everyone elses battles, mostly in which he just fuels a fire instead of extinguishing.

I don't get why Schilling gets on the middle of everything. He should just concentrate on getting back to the mound. This stuff is uncalled for.

That quote comes from Schilling on his response when asked about how harsh the Fenway fans were being, he was simply comparing how much worse fans in Philly were then in Boston. Half joking, I just thought it was funny.

And I love how so many of you 'know' me and that you automatically assume certain player's are 'my boy' like Schilling and Johnny Damon when in fact you all would be hard pressed to know who my personal favorite really is. I respect Schilling because he signed a big deal to win a ring, and one year later he put his body on the line to give us that damn ring. He is a great figure to have on your teamm because he cares so much about the Red Sox organization. The man has his players backs when they are being ridiculed on sports radio, he takes part in Sox message boards (if a Marlin did that you guys would be on his nuts faster then Jenna Jameson, and rightfully so)

Ive never had a beef with Dwayne Wade the player and the person or the Miami Heat. I do however have a beef with how the Red Sox and Johnny Damon especially are absolutely belittled and chewed up about being over exposed and over played. Anything posted about either turns into a spewing of insults which is tiring. Damon was ridiculed as a player and person...and wrongly. He is said to have the so called 'rock star' personality when anything I ever see with the guy and the fans shows him as one of the most courteous to fans ive ever seen. (In the HOF exhibition game, he signed for 45 minutes and waived off red sox security telling him to hurry and pack it up)

Wade is an amazing player who has a helluva future. He is on advertisements, video games, and he is the current NBA playoff ESPN darling. And never ONCE have I bitched or started threads crying about the Heats air time. Why? Because I think there is a correllation between great play and the ammount of coverage you as a player and team gets. Thats why the freaking Red Sox deserve their time in the sun, its because they are the CHAMPIONS. When the time comes that every Red Sox thread doesnt get hijacked or spammed up with useless and 'hater' comments, I will never call Heat fans out for being contradictory.

Now for the real issue. La Russa gets a free pass in this whole situation because of who he is, what he stands for, and where he manages. I have a lot of respect for Tony and think he is a top 3 manager in the game. But why is he not given s*** for actually starting this whole thing by talking smack about Edgar? I think he is very dismayed still that he didnt get one of his favorite players in the off-season when it looked like the Cardinals would be able to re-sign him. He is probably not a big fan of Boston now, since they did that whole 4 game sweep of them in the series, celebrated on their home field, and then signed one of the biggest cogs off that very good team.

And how is La Russa not an ass for saying now that since they didnt sign Renteria they are actually better, and good things came from it? Very nice friend you got their Edgar.

I also love how CardsJimEdmons15 posted a very biased editorial on the situation isntead of reading the transcripts on both interviews like I did. St. Louis probably despises Boston right now, for reasons I posted above. (On an un-related note, La Russa was promoting his book when he made these comments...when Johnny Damon promoted his, he was slammed.)

So, when Schilling is asked to addresss La Russa's comments he should just sit on his thumb. I dont know about you, but as a fan I like my players to speak out and voice their opinions. And yes I agree this isnt the best of times for Schilling to be talking out as he has a +8 ERA, but he did, now lets move on.

BTW, CardsJE15, please tell me when was the last time end of May stats were a player's final numbers? Or when a baseball season was done in May? Maybe St. Louis thought having the best record in the majors won them a WS, but they now realize that doesnt mean s***. If I remember correctly, you were crying when Edgar left and were mad. But of course not now, you have turned on him like any other player who would leave your team.

Im tired of being the jerk, but when the team you love and have loved since you were a kid, it burns in you. I never once gloated about the Sox winning the championship. I actually didnt post on the board from late August to mid October so I wouldnt have to deal with the $hit I know Id recieve being a fan of any team that wins or is successful. So before you attack me, look at my track record and save your petty comments.

Thanks.

Wow, loooooong post.

I don't really want to drag this thing on so I am going to sum a few things up here to clarify where I come from.

1. I never said anything about Damon, let alone anything negative. I left that subject alone because he is a great player. He is no superstar and has flaws in his game like any other very good player does. You will not find anything I posted in the past to say anything bad about Damon but I don't think you were addressing me. (Just posted to make sure).

2. When I said Curt is your boy, I mean it and still think he is. I never said he was your favorite player. I have a ton of friends that individually I have probably refered to as my boy as sometime or another, and odds are you have too. This does not mean they are all my best friend, and it was not saying Curt if your favorite player.

3. I did not know what your sig was about so I took it out of context without knowing the rest. However, in the LaRussa instance, Curt's comments did nothing to A) help the situation or B) help Renteria. You may defend him until the end, but you should be able to admit that sometimes he needs to just stop getting involved. Sometimes it is called class to handle the situation without retaliation, especially if it did not involve you to begin with. You say if this was a Marlin, all of these Marlins fans would be with Curt if he did this. However, you fail to account for yourself, who most likely would be crucifying the Marlins fans and Curt for doing so. It is like a double edge sword.

4. This was not meant to be a fight, just a difference of opinion and I am interested in hearing the difference from an oposing view.

Thanks for a non-jerk response that us typical from many on here. Weve had our differences in the past, but now you are an actual interesting poster who brings alot ot the table in his responese. I appreciate it.

Not a problem. I enjoy seeing from the other point of view sometimes. Not meaning to start a fight always, just trying to attempt to see through other's eyes.

Now for the real issue. La Russa gets a free pass in this whole situation because of who he is, what he stands for, and where he manages. La Russa is getting a free pass? Where? With St. Louis fans? Of course. Why is he not given s*** you ask for "actually starting this whole thing"? Because the fact is, he never said anything bad about Edgar (which you wouldnt quite know or understand right now). Edgar is a low key guy that doesnt like the spotlight. TLR may be pissed that we didnt resign Edgar and I wont deny that but Edgar didnt care to resign with the Cardinals. It wouldnt have mattered to anyone. It was all about the money. Heck, the Cards only offered 1 million less. Heck I'm not even a big fan of Boston since that sweep, I'm still mad but at the same time you wont see me not saying that the Red Sox were the better team at the time. It doesnt feel good to have someone celebrating on your field. It certainly didnt feel very good either losing a player like Edgar. Maybe that's why some are so bitter about this situation.

And how is La Russa not an ass for saying now that since they didnt sign Renteria they are actually better, and good things came from it? Very nice friend you got their Edgar.

He's an ass for saying that? How dare him.. Cardinals basically got Mark Mulder, David Eckstein, and Mark Grudzielanek, for letting Renteria go, all key pieces to the success of this year's team. Yea, what an ass La Russa was for saying that.

Biased? Maybe but the situation is as bad as Schilling made it. As far as I'm concerned from reading the interview transcripts I dont see the controversial remarks by La Russa. He said Renteria would struggle there basically and he's not a outgoing guy. If that's wrong, wow. Of course St. Louis despises Boston right now and probably for a long time. We, as fans will NEVER stop hearing about it.

He should? Who said that? I certainly didnt at all. I also like my players and manager as a fan to speak out and voice their opinions. So with that said, why can't TLR share his? This goes both ways, sorry. It certainly isnt the best times for him to be talking but he did, and I'm probably not gonna move on. I havent moved on yet from the World Series. One of these days I will.

BTW, CardsJE15, please tell me when was the last time end of May stats were a player's final numbers? Or when a baseball season was done in May? But of course not now, you have turned on him like any other player who would leave your team.

Since let's see.. NEVER.. And lemme think on that.. NEVER.. Maybe we thought having the best record in baseball WAS gonna win the WS, but it didnt mean s***. It probably wont mean s*** again when the Cardinals have the best record in baseball at the end of the year. Yes you remebered correct, I was upset Edgar left and mad, but I wasnt "crying." Infact I got sick of waiting around all off-season. Of course I'm not mad now, David Eckstein is doing just fine NOW and if he continues to do fine I'll be happy just as much as I was with Edgar. I have not turned my back on Edgar, nor will I. I still love him as a player but this situation is pissing me off. Now he says Boston has the best fans. He said the Cardinals did last year. Make up your mind Edgar. If Boston has the best fans, just leave it at that.

Just had to share my ramblings on this.. This isnt anything against you. Boston won plain and simple. I just want some freaking revenge this year.. in the WORLD SERIES.. not in Interleague play.
