Posted June 24, 200519 yr Let's see....who is divisive? Who favors compromise? The latest National Journal Congressional Insiders Poll suggests Republicans are looking forward to a fight over a potential Supreme Court nominee. An amazing 71% of GOP insiders would prefer President Bush nominates a conservative "guaranteed to spark a fight" rather than "someone who?d be easier to confirm." Meanwhile, 75% of Democrats seek someone who won't cause much of a fuss. http://politicalwire.com/archives/2005/06/...reme_court.html http://nationaljournal.com/insiders.pdf
June 24, 200519 yr That's because most Republicans want a conservative, which would cause a fight. The best Democrats can hope for is a moderate, which wouldn't cause a fight. It isn't about whether or not causing a fight, it's about who most Republicans want on the supreme court. It's as simple as that, nothing to do with who likes political fights. Though they do make for good television between celebretity trials. :plain
June 25, 200519 yr The Democrats have the court's interests right in your post. The court needs moderates. Not conservatives or liberals. Moderates.

June 28, 200519 yr This is almost laughable. The problem is the democrats with a minority in both houses are in no position to demand a liberal. They have their backs to the wall, so all they can hope for is a moderate. The conservatives unfortunately, with control of congress and the presidency are in position to attempt whatever they please. If the dems were i nthat position theyd do the same. Lets not color coat it as the compromising dems and unbending republicans. The political spectrum has dictated the way both sides will enter this battle.
