In the event the NHC runs out of names, it will use the phoentical list:

 

Alpha, Beta, Charlie etc.

 

 

 

What a quandary it would be if Charlie happened and it became a major storm.

Charlie is reserved in case the run out of names, that is why they spelled it as Charley on the lists. Charlie is not a full proper name as it is a nickname for Charles. Charley is a full proper name.

 

That eliminates a conflict in text between Charlie and Charley.

The Phonetic list is the original list they used for naming hurricanes in the military. I believe that was either in 1949 or 51.

For right now the system is dead and i will close the topic, its remnants are headed in our direction, and if it becomes a TD again, this could get interesting, but for now ill close the topic.
