EA's new NHL 2006 came out today. I bought it for the PC and I must say, it is the most amazing hockey game ever created. There are so many features, the game is so fun to play, the graphics and overall gameplay has been improved ten fold. For the past few years EA's NHL series has been AWFUL, well this year they finally got it right. This game has everything.

 

It's a brand new game, not just an improvement on last year's NHL 2005. The entire design team and everyone responsible for the disaster that was NHL 2005 was fired.

 

There are so many new animations and player movements in the game and the flow and feel of the game is incredibly realistic. The way players react, skate, and move is identical to real life, you can even see the load in the sticks that how much detail there is.

 

Now keep in mind, I have the PC version. The console versions usually have less features and not as good graphics as the PC version, but i'm sure the console versions are still awesome.

 

A lot of people think Madden 2006 was a disappointment this year, well NHL 2006 definitely isn't. It is the greatest hockey game ever made.

I was planning on picking it up tomorrow, now I'm actually looking forward to it. :cool

I'd rather spend $200 for a console and $50 for a game then $1000 for a decent computer that I would have to make and then $50 for the game.

That's fine and I agree with you. But the computer allows for you to change almost anything you could possible want to and the graphics smoke the console one. Also, the load times are usually not nearly as long (or stupid, the Madden franchise on consoles has gotten ridiculous with the loads).

 

I'm mostly a console buyer myself, but the few times I've been able to experience the computer version of the game it's dance-tastic.

ill probably rent it for my ps2, give it a try. i bought 2002 for my PC and loved it, 2004 sucked dick though. my problem with pc games is that i share a computer and believe me my sister can get annoying as f*** when she wants the computer.

I had the game in my hands today at EB and decided to wait until I saw some reviews, i'm definitely interested though.

I agree. Computer games are insane, but the expense to run them where developers design them to be run at is just outrageous. Also, sitting at a computer desk sucks compared to chillin on your couch or bed.

99% of new computers, even really low end $700 ones, are capable of running pretty much all of the new computer games as long as they have a decent graphics card.

You're arguing too hard for this. Really.

OK, so I've been playing it for the better part of 2 days now, and I must say, it's trying really hard to be more like real hockey than any other game I've played.

 

I've got 3 big gripes about it though:

 

1) There is no dropoff between spectacular goalies and average goalies. You're just as likely to win 4-2 (what I find the score of most of my games to be) with Kevin Weekes in net as you are Luongo (who also happens to be the highest rated player in the game...so go figure).

 

2) It tried to do way too much, and instead of doing a few things spectacularly, it does a lot of stuff average. This is the first NHL game were I find that setting and running plays is more important than any other feature, and that's amazing, but the plays break down quickly, and there really isn't any true "corner" play, so while it looks cool, it's still a little video-gamey.

 

3) Snipers don't have as huge a value in this game as they should (since it's trying to go heavy on the realism). Unless you're banging the net, you're not scoring with any consistency. So really, a guy like Bouwmeester is really worthless in this game because it seems as if you're better off putting a bunch of goons on defense and a bunch of grinders up front.

 

Still probably the most realistic hockey game out, but it could still have been even better.

I heard NHL 2k6 was better so I got it and I like it alot. I can't speak for NHL 06 since I haven't played it, but if you're considering 2k6, you can't go wrong with it.
