As many of you know, I live in Cape Coral, Florida. Cape Coral, prior to being platted around 40 years ago, was like New Orleans....under sea level. So, the Rosen brothers decided to dig 400 miles in canals which not only created this waterfront wonderland I live in, but also put my house 15 feet or so above sea level and the lots around me about 9 feet above sea level. After all the water entered the canals, we ended up with 114 square miles of land (all buildable) and a system of paved roads that is over 1,700 miles long. New Orleans doesn't need relocation, it needs innovation.

The crap you get after you're done dredging to make those canals is what can be used to artificially raise the level of land. Of course, as I'm sure you've read in the news during the past week, when you dump that crap all over barren land, you lower the level of the surrounding developed land that can't be dumped on (e.g. downtown).
September 9, 200520 yr New Orleans is much bigger than Cape Coral, in addition they aren't going to level the entire city to raise it above sea level. It is a new Levee or bust
