Who was better 04 Alex or 05 Alex

Featured Replies

I thought that 04 Alex may have been more productive given his high power numbers but after looking into his VORP and WARP I realized that 05 alex was more productive I am a Moneyball guy but i thouht that him having hit 8th in the order would have hurt him in those two stats

2004 Alex.

More HR (23 vs 5), more RBI (79 vs 45), more Runs (67 vs 45), just three less walks, equal doubles, equal errors in 34 more games, more TB (235 vs 160). Way more productive on the whole than this season.

VORP/WARP doesn't express the player's benefit in his role on his team.

2004. 18 guaranteed runs, plus a better RBI per baserunner rate (which is important for a guy whose leadoff or bases empty at bats are negated by the pitcher batting behind him).
