Major League Baseball, Turner extend broadcasting agreement through 2012

Turner Sports to air approximately 125 MLB games nationally on TBS and Turner South

Major League Baseball and Turner Sports today announced a new long-term extension to continue to telecast Atlanta Braves baseball games nationally on TBS through the 2012 season.

As part of the agreement, Turner will continue to air approximately 125 Major League Baseball games on TBS and Turner South, featuring the 14-time defending division champion Atlanta Braves. The new agreement guarantees a minimum of 45 games on national carrier TBS through the life of the contract. Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. began televising MLB games in 1973 on WTCG (now WTBS/TBS) in Atlanta, and will have carried the national pastime for 40 years by the conclusion of this new agreement. TBS became a national Major League Baseball rightsholder in 1997.

"Turner Sports has been an outstanding partner and we are excited to extend our relationship for an additional seven seasons," said Bob DuPuy, President and COO, Major League Baseball. "This new agreement is the next step in our ongoing effort to partner with the strongest roster of telecast partners possible."

"Major League Baseball and the Atlanta Braves have been an integral part of the foundation and growth of TBS and will continue to be for years to come," said David Levy, Turner Sports President. "This new deal further emphasizes the importance of Major League Baseball to the Turner family of networks."

Along with its relationship with Turner Sports, Major League Baseball has national telecast agreements with FOX Sports and ESPN.

Semi-old news....but....

The Braves are being forced back into their cage. Look for them to keep dumping payroll. Wouldn't be suprised to see Turner Broadcasting finally dump the Braves in a couple of years. :whistle
