Glove doctor The Gold Glove voting enhanced the glowing reputation of Florida infield coach Perry Hill. The Marlins were the only major-league team to have two infielders win a Gold Glove: second baseman Luis Castillo and third baseman Mike Lowell. In the past five years, with Montreal and Florida, Hill has had four infielders combine to win six Gold Gloves. Lowell made a point of telling reporters that he would not have won without Hill's work. Lowell had a poor offensive season but, with Hill's intervention, kept his defensive game intact. "A lot of the credit for this goes to Perry Hill for the countless hours he spends working with me and helping me prepare," said Lowell, whose .236 average was the lowest ever by a National League Gold Glove third baseman.
