January 23, 200620 yr I may be moving to the first-base side founder's field section this upcoming season, but I've got a few questions that I'd rather ask fellow fans instead of the people trying to sell me the seats. My rep gave me the run-down on all the perks and whatnot, so that seems nice and all, but I'm concerned about one thing: the view. I'm currently in 149 which is right behind the plate, and I love it. Apparently, batters box just won't be available in the quantity I'd need (there's a single seat available right now, if anyone's interested), but there are a few Founder's Field seats available, but they're down the first base line. If anyone has sat in the seats on the first-base side, how are they? Is the strike-zone easily discernable (as I find that to be my greatest gripe sitting down the line elsewhere)? Relative to seats behind homeplate, which do you prefer? Thanks.
January 23, 200620 yr I've sat in the first row directly across from 1st base a few times (last year mostly). A) You can't discern the strike zone. You can tell vertical correctness, but not whether it's inside or out. B) The view is great. You can see the entire field really well, and you get a great perspective when balls are hit. C) You can come to the park an hour and a half early and get autographs from whomever is willing to sign em. The players walk by the 1st base side many times during warmups and whatnot, so there's a good chance you get to talk with them. D) I don't know how your tickets work, but with Founder's field tix you get to walk under the stadium, past the clubhouses and past the batting cages (sometimes you'll see the players in there if you go early enough) You also get food service at yours seat, and the Mermaids come literally right behind you a few times a game.
January 23, 200620 yr Author Is there a substantial amount of head-turning to see plays? Especially on balls hit to right-field? Thanks again.
January 23, 200620 yr i sit in 150 behind home plate a lot and i've sat down the line and i really much prefer behind home plate. I don't know what row you're in now as opposed to the founders field, but if it's a big jump, then i'd probably move to the founder's field, but if it's insignificant, i'd definitely stay behind home plate
January 23, 200620 yr mermaids are definitely a plus sitting 1st base side.... I love when its the Bellsouth Phonebook game and they are right behind me
January 23, 200620 yr I love when its the Bellsouth Phonebook game and they are right behind me talk about some thrill packed action
January 24, 200620 yr If you're in 149 and you love it, I'd advise staying where you are. Normally when I go to games I sit in 149 or 150. I think it's the best seat in the house. I enjoy getting a clear view of the strike zone and a clear view of the angle and distance of balls hit. When the ball is hit off the bat from these seats, you KNOW as well as you can know if it's a hit, and what kind of hit. I've sat in founder's field first base. You have no perspective of strike zone other than horizontally. You have a much worse angle on direction and distance of hit balls. No comparison on judging whether that ball is hit 5 feet from the shortstop or is in the gap. And there is a bit of head turning on balls hit down the right field line. The only advantage is the great view you get of the goings on at first base when there's a runner on. To me, whatever perks you get would wear thin after awhile. How many autographs do you want or need? I do like the idea of The Mermaids breathing down my neck. That I could take every game.
January 24, 200620 yr Is there a substantial amount of head-turning to see plays? Especially on balls hit to right-field? Thanks again. Naa, not too much head turning. You're not goin to get whiplash, if that's what you're afraid of. You're close to the field, but you aren't 'that' close that you'll have to turn your head quickly. You're far enough from the plate, respectively, to follow the path of the ball with your eyes and minimal head movement.
January 24, 200620 yr Unless you can get seats in the first row of the founders field, don't waste your money.
January 24, 200620 yr Unless you can get seats in the first row of the founders field, don't waste your money. Well I completely disagree, but to each his own.
January 24, 200620 yr There is no question that you have the best view of the strike zone sitting behind home plate. On the 1st base side you can tell if the ball is high or low but other than that, unless it's really obvious, you pretty much have to watch the catcher and most of the time you can tell. As far as the direction and distance of hit balls that someone mentioned I don't find any problem with that on the 1st base side. I also don't have any problem judging how far the ball is hit. I used to sit behind home plate because it's great to have that view of the strike zone but I switched to the 1st base side because I like to see the hitter and I like the overall view better. I'm sitting higher up than founder's field so that makes a difference but the head turning is no big deal at all. I sat in the 1st row of the founder's field right in front of 1st base only once and I enjoyed it. It boils down to personal preference.
January 25, 200620 yr Ok, so here are some pics from that vantage point. They arent that clear b/c the camera is iffy and I resized it to fit the screen. I have a lot more, these are just a few of the ones that give you an idea of the perspective from those seats.
January 25, 200620 yr If you want to see some more, just let me know and I shall provide. I'm still waiting on about 20 of them...I think they might be better. I dont' remember.
January 25, 200620 yr It's pathetic how all the Marlins in those pics are now gone. I spared you, trust me. I have JP, Luis, Ency, etc...but didn't show em.
