January 24, 200620 yr With the winter olympics and all, winter sports are really on my mind. If there are any skiers out there, I would be interested in knowing your favorite ski spots. I just got back from a week in Park City, Utah and all I can say is, ?WOW!? The skiing out there was absolutely amazing. We got snowed on almost every night we were out there ? 6?-16? of ?champagne powder.? Now I had heard of this stuff before but to play in it? It was unreal. For those of you who only have a slight understanding of snow, what we consider ?powder? in the east is made up of a snow to water ratio of about 10:1. Great powder out here can hit as high as 12:1. Apparently, Utah is so dry that the ratio is NORMALLY 40:1! That is super light fluffy stuff and they receive 40 feet of it annually? Anyway, we hit Park City Mountain, The Canyons, Alta, Snowbird, and Solitude. They each had something to offer, but Alta and Snowbird were ski heaven. The vertical is over 3,200 feet, the mountain has over 4,700 skiable acres, and it averages over 500 inches of powder a year in Little Cottonwood Canyon. It is simply unbeatable. Anyway, I?ve hit Vail, Beaver Creek, Breck, Tahoe, Squaw, Kirkwood, Whistler, and anything worth skiing back east. I have plans to hit Jackson Hole within a year or two. I?d like to hit Idaho too, but I don?t know enough about what is worth skiing out there. Am I missing anything major in North America?
January 24, 200620 yr Author Vermont's got some good spots. Stowe, Stratton. Yeah, I've hit Stowe, Stratton, Bromely, Killington, Jay Peak, Mad River Glen, Mount Snow [one of my buddies was an instructor there], Okemo, Pico, Sugarbush, and Smugglers in Vt. It's good skiing for the east. For my money, there's still nothing like the Wasatch and Sierras...
January 24, 200620 yr I effing hate you. I want to go skiing. It's so happening next winter. Try and stop me.
January 24, 200620 yr Author I want to go skiing. One of the benefits of living in the frozen tundras of New York State, my friend... With that said, there's nothing worth bragging about in NY. Gore? Whiteface [iCEface]? This is the best we have to offer? Fuggetaboutit. I'd rather drive the hour to hit Mount Snow or even 45 minutes to hit Jiminy Peak in MA.
