If Buck Martinez had a fricking clue, he would have coached like every game and inning mattered. He was pulling players early and leaving pitchers too long, and using Al Leiter for God's sake.
March 9, 200620 yr It's not a sham at all, on the contrary you have to do well in three games. It's a round robin format and it's how international tournaments (at least, real ones) work, so get used to it. You wouldn't be complaining if the US had showed and taken care of business against Canada. But they didn't, do in part to Buck Martinez still thinking this is just a glorified All Star Game, and now they're faced with possible elimination. Believe it or not, there are other countries in the world that play baseball and do so rather well. The possibility of the US not advancing is our fault due half to our failure and half to the Canadians showing who actually wants to win, not the tournament's format.
