  1. Excellent move. Embrace the analytics. Strengthen the scouting for both the draft and international signings. Stop drafting 23 year old no hopers, ffs. Ridiculous draft strategy and he swung and missed by a mile on the top picks. Exactly what we need to do for long-term success.
  2. No offense, but the guy batted .351 with an .886 OPS at AAA as a 23-year old. He did everything he needed to do at the plate and deserves a chance. As to where to play him, that is the problem. Also, I feel like we aren't getting much with a free agent SS, so why not see what we have with Amaya. He wasn't given a fair shot in the majors and his season was pretty decent at Jacksonville, although a bit up and down at times with a few injuries. He also walks a lot (as does Edwards) we need guys in the Arraez mold and good things happen when a team draws a lot of bases on balls.
  3. Would like to see them make a run at the two young foreign free agents, Yamamoto and Lee. Lee missed most of the season with a fractured ankle. Yamamoto is busy dominating the Japanese League yet again. Both would be franchise changers and potential superstars. More importantly would build the Marlin brand in two separate countries. Might be a pipe dream but would be our biggest home run swing ever with two potential international superstars in their prime. The rest of the FA crop is underwhelming. Our two biggest positions of need are pretty thin, SS and C. Wish list: Extend Kim Keep drilling patience at bat philosophy. Strengthen scouting. Build from ground up. Improve overall defense.
  4. Good year and more improtantly hope for the future. Most of our pieces are still young and the key vets we picked up will hopefully stick around. Progress for the organization and fanbase. Extend Kim. Fix the scouting and build from the ground up. Excited for the future.
  5. Mets 8th and 20th ranked prospects, at least that high if not higher for the Marlins. They are a long way away but certainly prospects, two of our best. For a rental with a worse ERA than Stallings, FFS.
  6. Remember that time we gave two of our best prospects for less than nothing? Pepperidge farm remembers.
  7. We should be waiving players not claiming them. Avi Wendle Stallings Robertsuck. None of them have a place here.and it is a disservice to this franchise and the fans that they are still here.
  8. The organization still has a lot of holes in it that were being patched over and can only be fixed with time. 1) The inability to develop hitters and our plate approach has been abominable. Getting a new hitting coach hopefully will help but it needs to be a top down approach all the way to the instructional leagues. This does take time but hopefully the ship is at least steering in the right direction. 2) Having years with zero international prospects really hurt. The lineup Jupiter was putting out on a daily basis was pretty embarrassing as evidenced by the fact they've mostly been replaced with the current draft class and free agents. 3) Poor management in the minors in particularly Beloit hasn't helped. Continually trotting out overaged non-prospects like David Bradshaw and Jake Thompson doesn't help anyone. They absolutely destroyed Ynmanol Marinez development and he is only one of a number of glaring examples. For what a few meaningless Midwestern League wins. 4) The draft has been a disaster and a new approach needs to be made immediately. Watson was/is an absolute disaster and Berry is starting to run out of time. We've swung and missed big-time on bats. Catcher has been an organizational black hole as we have almost 20 guys that completely failed. The strategy to draft and sign old pitchers (fourth-year college guys, even fifth-year guys) is just dumb on every level as none of these guys will ever contribute other than beating guys 4 or 5 years younger in the FSL for meaningless wins and stats. We have done a weirdly decent job of getting some useful arms with Nardi being the biggest success. Find the scout that identified him and get him to sign 10 or 20 more guys. 5) We have made strides with the new academy and our international players. We need to expand that footprint now to Asia and most of all be patient with these guys as it takes sometimes 6 or 7 years for them to develop (see George Soriano). Don't be so hasty to trade young far-off prospects (guys like Vargas and Rodriguez) and instead cast off the Zach Thompson/Cam Misner guys to upgrade. These are guys with minimal upside and the lack of trading a potential superstar won't hurt as much even if they make it. For the most part our core is young and getting close to reaching their peak. Our rotation is 27,25,25,25,20 years old which sets us up for a few years of contention. We are slowly shedding the 30-plus players (Cooper, Wendle after the year, maybe/maybe not Soler) and putting guys with upside/downside in their place. There are still some major holes but I feel like we are in a better place than 3 or even 5 years ago.
  9. Sorry to hear this. My father is suffering from dementia and is in year 3. Will have to look at the same care in the near future for him most likely.
  10. Was a little shocked seeing this one. He had been MIA, no idea he was battling serious illness. Too soon, RIP.
  11. Sucks for him, guys has grinded and is finally getting regular PT. Best wished for a healthy recovery.
  12. Hopefully we've learned by now signing a 33 year old catcher is a bad idea. Hopefully we've learned by now signing a 33-year old is a bad idea. That being said, there are zero free agent catchers worth signing. Better off diving deep and picking up a younger catcher blocked in another organization.
  13. Yamamoto's highest ERA since 2020 is 1.68. That is his highest ERA, not lowest. He is that guy. JHL is batting a career low .319 this year. His BB/K ratio is insane. Both are turning 25 this week. Empty the vaults Bruce. These two are game changers.
  14. If we are serious about winning we should put in a competitive bid for Jung-hoo Lee and Yoshinobut Yamamato. Make it competitive and the Marlins can become worldwide. The only other free agents we should be bidding for are Julio Urias (likely won't get) and Jordan Hicks (feasible). Kiner-Falefa at SS if he is afforadable. Everything else is a pipe dream (Ohtani) or a bad contract (over 30). If Kim gets one or both of these she should run for President. Mr. Sherman step up, you could become Mr. Worldwide (no apologies, to Mr. Perez). Every egg should be in these two baskets. That and investing in the academies will create generational change. Marlins will win, Sherman gets rich. Let's go fish.
