Disappointing thread and a bad look from a poster who should know better.

We just went over our projected win total for the year. (I bet over 72.5 wins on the Vegas line) We did this despite having a bad bit of injury luck, a rotation of 2, journeyman bullpen, and an extremely young lineup who hasn't come close to reaching their peak.

In today's instant gratification society everyone wants an instant winner but the franchise has literally rebuilt it from the ground up (literally like the new complex in the DR). They have also taken a long-term approach going with youth. This takes time and we are still in the second inning. I get the frustration of long-time Marlins fans but given the restrictions on resources to work with (I.e. Bruce Sherman's empty man purse) the job done has been outstanding.

The lineup has no one over 30 with Stowers being our oldest every day player. Reinforcements are on the way with a farm system that is getting more loaded by the month (Cannarella, Compton, Alderman, Max Williams, Snelling, White, Dishmey, Kisting, Solarte).

The rotation has three promising anchors in Sandy, Eury, and Max (who still should be the closer in my eyes) a long with prospects White, Snelling, Milbrandt, Dishmey, and swing men Junk, Phillips, Gusto, Mazur.

The bullpen has been a mess due to overuse, injuries, and never-was (that is you Tyler Zuber). Henriquez will be back, Phillips will move back, Ekness will get better, and Fulton might get better, Kempner looks promising. The rest can be DFAed as far as I'm concerned and filled with a couple FA sigings (hello, Adrian Morejon, Bryan Abreu, Woo Jin-An) and some farmhands.

We have made some poor free agent signings with restrictive financial guidance. Loosen up your man-purse strings Sherman or that will be a problem.

Our trades are long-term plays. There will be some hits and some misses. Liam Hicks is no world-beater and perhaps you forget he couldn't throw out many base runners. The returns for him look promising so far.

I expect these thoughts from someone like else (that's you Taiwan Marlins, your language barrier is no excuse for your lack of baseball knowledge). All in all we are on the right track and shame on you Polly. Do Better.

TIL wanting more than one full winning season in a 15 year period is demanding instant gratification, but sure lets do a victory lap for being on pace for the same record as last year...

Does your back hurt from bending over backward so much to support everything they do?

Wow, going over a "projected" total that wasn't good to begin with....let's throw a parade!!

Instant gratification? This group has owned the team for 8 years now. And we're still at .500 with the endless "just wait X years, it'll be better!!!!

Wow, they get an award for building a new complex!

"Reinforcements" of a "loaded" system.......lol

The same issue every year of not having enough pitching, yet trading from it anyway, and not refilling the pool somehow, so then we end up with 3/5 of the rotation as bullpen games for most of the season......

This then affects the bullpen and they rely more and more on garbage scrap heap guys they signed.

As has been pointed out, the Liam Hicks thing isn't about Liam Hicks......it's that they were in contention, and instead of trying, they punted as usual.....for some future TBD season that'll never come.

And now you're directly taking shots at posters? Cool....

Right?

I posted this before, but got flak for pointing out facts....

March: 4-1

April: 11-15

May: 11-18

June: 20-6

July: 10-15

August: 13-14

Sept: 5-7 (as of 9/13)

The trend has actually continued (and gotten worse) since it was last posted in early August...

So a short March and the crazy June remain their only over .500 months. (24-7)

September is at 5-7 as of 9/13

The remaining months (April, May, July, August) have been a combined 17 games under .500. (45-62)

74-76 overall record (150 games)

I guess technically we've improved over last year to this point on the calendar:

2025: 70-79 (149 games on Sept 13).......or 70-80 in an equal 150 games (Sept 14)

TLDR: The Marlins still suck and you're okay with it

I’ve never been this annoyed with the team in my life. I checked out emotionally after they blew the first 2 games against the Red Sox

But what I think Marlins Project meant when he said instant gratification was instant gratification in reference to BENDIX.

Not the totality of the woes of the franchise.

Sure, that's fair, and time is required to turn things around.

However, as pointed out above to refute his point, this is already the second rebuild of this ownership group within 8 years......and we gave a big pass the first go around.......there's always a "just wait until ________" excuse endlessly.

Luzardo trade was trading a top 5 SP for a utility IF to save $7M. people hate jazz here but the Yankees absolutely slaughtered the marlins on the trade WAR wise. Trevor rogers has more WAR than Stowers since the trade and it was for Norby anyway. Victor mesa is destroying it for the rays. This team has literally 2 actual starting pitchers for about 2 months now. Bendix has literally not signed a single FA that has produced positive value. They sold at the deadline.

There are absolutely some positive things and this draft class looks promising and we have some injured young SPs coming back (still unknowns), but the aggregate moves are pretty lackluster to absolutely mind boggling (Luzardo).

This is really not a fun team to watch and hasn’t been for months, and maybe it works if in 2028/29, but the cumulative effect of trading elite guys to save salary and having the season be a never ending spring training is getting very old

Just wait for us to trade 1-2 starters in the offseason!

Will be curious what they pick up the club option for Sandy . $21M is a lot for a ~3 WAR SP in Bendix world, but Sherman did say he’s not trading him

Edited by pollythewog

Their hands are tied, if they don't pick up the option it ruins any remaining goodwill they have with the moves they've made. If they pick it up they are overpaying.

When you underpay everyone else, you can take the flyer that he turns it around and either becomes the ace again or great trade bait.

Watching the Pete Alonso love affair in Queens, IDK how Sterns or Cohen can show their face in the Iron Triangle after the year he's had, the longevity (Hasn't missed a game in 3 years) and the way the fan base loved him.

Sandy would definitely be getting more than $21M on the open market.

Agree but Bendix paying $7M per 1 WAR is anathema to how Bendix runs his shop (he’d rather pay $3M for -.6 WAR)

Sherman also said they'd spend "when it's time"......which it never will be.
