  1. I agree. Its not like the Marlins don't get enough bad press as it is. They definitely did not need something like this.
  2. Thats not realistic to hit on a lot unproven players year after year, ie draft picks and international players. Thats why practically no team has won long term with this strategy.
  3. I used to believe small market teams can be competitive, and to an extent, they can. But the reality is, they have VERY small windows without extending or retaining players. Look at the Pirates and Royals. Their windows are already slammed shut after how long it took to even reach that point. So as fans of small market teams, we have to wait and hope the rebuild works for a 2 to 3 year window, and if that doesnt work, another long rebuilding cycle. Baseball is very screwed up.
  4. This team won't do well in the local market until it moves somewhere else. For a long time, there was the excuse of not having the stadium. Blame all the owners. Then we sign one of the best players in baseball to an extension, does attendance increase? No. 58 home runs? No. Miami is a lost cause and this franchise will just spin its wheels forever.
  5. What are you talking about? Luke was very whiny in the original movies along with some of the other characters. Its actually very in character. We just tend to think of those movies fondly and forget all that because nostalgia. I rewatched those movies several times lately and was shocked at how much bad I overlooked before. As far as Luke goes, they just didn't take the direction with the character you wanted them to, which is fine, but I didn't mind. My opinion is that bad story telling is doing the same thing over again. Don't worry, with JJ doing Eposide 9, I'm sure you'll get another "safe" movie that doesn't take risks.
  6. Who cares if people threaten to not attend games? The attendance is going to be poor no matter what the front office does.
  7. Loved it. Masterful trolling all around. It's like they made this movie to make the "hardcore" fans whine even more.
  8. I haven't been excited for a Marlins season since 2012.
  9. Trade value is based on several things, including the desperation of the other teams on the other end of the deal. Acquiring Ozuna at this point was a luxury for the Cardinals. Even if you think his trade value would decline during this season, the Marlins could have even waited until after spring training started and some other team suffers a big injury to lure them into wanting someone like Ozuna. Then the Cardinals may come knocking with an even better offer knowing this other team is chomping at the bit for him. The Marlins jumped the gun big time. They were played
  10. Yeah keeping Mike Hill makes no sense. Its just a large neon sign to other teams that they can fleece the Marlins in any trade. This guy would trade a hundred dollar bill for two 20 dollar bills because two bills is better than one.
  11. Maybe, maybe not. I think with Ozuna they could have held out more until they got something more impressive. This also makes the team weaker in other trade negotiations if they want to ship off someone like Yelich. Teams will play hardball knowing that the Marlins are bad negotiators. Dont expect other teams to offer high prospects for anyone now.
  12. There was no reason to trade Ozuna now. They couldve gotten a lot more at the trade deadline imo.
  13. Yeah, because that's what I said. I said it would already be better than Loria's ownership, who did none of the things you mentioned either.
  14. I don't like Loria, but he actually did try various things to get people to the ball park. What is Jeter golng to do besides win that hasn't already been tried to attract fans? The "fans" are most directly responsible for the terrible financial situation of this team and the resulting moves. Miami will never really support this team. There will always be an excuse not to go to the ball park.
  15. Mostly because its the Marlins and most sports writers are intellectually lazy because no one is going to actually rebut their articles that tear apart the Marlins organization for anything they do. If Derek Jeter can get rid of these clown uniforms and clown aspects of the new ball park, and at least give this team the appearance of professionalism, he's already done a better job than Loria.
  16. Yes, but is his value in injury plagued years enough that you cannot replace his production with a couple of cheaper power hitters down the road? Power hitters are not as expensive as they used to be, and committing that much to one, albeit one of the top three in baseball, is going to just make his contract an albatross in a few years. While I agree its stupid to not completely dismantle this team as others are saying, I will judge the front office on their acquisitions from now on, because trading Stanton and getting a poor return is inevitable since the day he signed that contract.
  17. Stanton is a good player, obviously, but 2017 was the first year he stayed healthy and lived up to his massive potential. What are the odds that he continues to stay healthy and have years like this one? Probably not that good if you consider his history. Are the Marlins less talented without him? Obviously. But this team could never afford such a ridiculous contract and Loria knew it and he knew that he wouldn't be around to have to be the one to make the hard choice.
  18. Some other new ownership may have kept payroll the same for a year or two, but reality will sink in that even the super rich don't want to lose huge sums of money on a yearly basis. They didn't get rich losing money.
  19. Who cares about fans who are loyal to a player versus the team? The team is last in attendance in the National League five years running. Punishing the new ownership for doing something they pretty much have to do makes no sense. If Loria had kept the team, you know this would happen anyway, right?
  20. People think the ownership can just pull money out of their butts. If the new ownership has to get rid of players it will be because of the stupid mistakes of the Loria ownership team, not because they want to do it. They are being handed one of the worst financial situations in baseball and they cannot just ride the magic school bus into Hogwarts to fix it.
  21. People should give the new front office a chance. This team hasn't even had a winning record since 2009. No play offs since 2003. They've gone through multiple fire sales. They have traded future hall of famers. And now...just NOW...people threaten to stop being a fan of the team if the new ownership so much as sneezes. Really? You didn't leave under Loria but you want to leave now?? (This message is obviously not directed toward the person I quoted).
