Max Meyer and Otto Lopez Have Been Selected For the All-Star Game

Featured Replies

I suspected that these 2 guys would get in. Every year guys opt out, so there could be another guy or 2 who gets in. Bachar, Bender, King, X, and Hicks stand out to me as possible replacements.

Obviously if Bender was selected as a replacement, he would have to opt out, but I think they would still award it to him for the record.

Remember when Spike called Otto Lopez one of the worst hitters in baseball during the offseason?

That was funny.

You know.. I have paid completely 0 attention to the Marlins this season. Like not watched any game or even had a clue about their record or anything. I’ve just been focusing on other areas of life and literally don’t have the time to devote 3 hours every night to watching a game. Well.. probably the main reason is the past few seasons I have lived outside the Marlins tv coverage area so I could watch the games on mlb.tv for free. But as of this year I am back in Marlins tv coverage area and cannot watch them on mlb.tv 🤣

Anyways.. I decided to check in today on the team since I know it’s July and all star break is always around this time of the year. I was pleasantly surprised to see the Marlins with a winning record and to see a couple of players selected to the All Star team and Otto Lopez having a great offensive year so far.

And you know.. I wouldn’t be a Marlins fan if I didn’t jump back on the bandwagon sooner or later. 😂 I still am not gonna pay to watch the Marlins games. But I’ll probably keep an eye on them throughout the season and if they make the postseason then in typical Marlins fan fashion I’ll be back here on the site acting like I’ve been following them all year. 🤣

Never understood why people disparage bandwagon fans anyway. Not that you are one, considering you spent plenty of time as an active fan in the dark times. The more fans, the better. Means more excitement and more revenue that will hopefully be spent on the roster.

So, welcome back!

That was funny.

I remember him saying that last year X had a high babip that was unsustainable (.330 from last year is far from sustainable with his skill set- and it is .331 this year). Then he went on to say that Otto had seen a drop in his wRC+. The only thing was that last year Otto's peripherals all improved- he was hitting it harder, striking out less, walking more etc. But his babip had dropped way down to unsustainably low levels. So based on Spike's ideas on bibip reversion to the mean, you would expect a good season from Otto, but I guess he wanted to cherry pick which statistical arguments to use for different players to fit his narrative.

In the end, X, and Otto have been 2 of the most valuable players on the team on offense.

I remember this VIVIDLY

he said it REPEATEDLY at the other place before the no-notice shut down.

I suspect it’s why we haven’t heard much from Spike in 2026

Bandwagon fan is awesome. Following the Marlins in normal down years is bad for your mental health.

No shame in being a bandwagon fan. I think its funny this team is winning despite making no effort to do so by the front office.

😂

Well, don’t worry.. for now I’m just in the phase of checking box scores occasionally, keeping an eye on the W/L record and maybe making a couple of posts a month on this forum. 😂

I think it's more of a "we've been here the whole time" type of thing.

I know I've watched a LOT less over the last few years with how poorly they were playing.....it just felt like a "why bother" type of thing....I have better ways to spend 3 hours daily than watch a dumpster fire.

I've definitely tuned in more this year, though, with them playing better.

And I think that's just a natural reaction to something/someone doing well - most people don't want to go to or watch a game where the team gets blown out or loses on a daily basis....it's just not fun. But when you know your team has a good chance to win on any given night, it's more fun and causes people to want to show up. Like you said, let's hope they keep doing well that builds momentum fan-wise.

You know.. as soon as I decide to follow the Marlins again and pay attention to scores.. they get swept by Cleveland. I’m thinking that for the good of everyone involved I better stay away from paying attention to them.

I’ll be back in the offseason I suppose.

Go Marlins… 😢

Sadly, Marlins still irrelevant. On the MLB recap show, they show every at bat in the B-9th except Otto. Then they show the line and mention the NL got only 3 hits. The line shows Soto 1-2 and PCA 1-1, but not Otto.
