March 30, 200620 yr So I am sitting here watching Oprah, which I dont normally do despite her charming and infectious personality. I'd love to meet her, dont get me wrong, I just dont like talk shows...although I also caught some Montel before NCAA tourney games came on the last few weeks. But hey, theres a very hot blonde on. But thats not the point of my story, even though she is smoking hot. You see, this is on regular TV that you can get with rabbit ears if you really wanted to watch network TV that badly, and the n word came about in a preview for the next days show. I think its a show where she goes back and talks to former guests and what not, and this southern boy on there is saying just some of the nastiest things and...no bleeps. I found it odd, but then I thought back to an SNL from not too long ago where they showed a Richard Pryor clip from what I would guess was the 70s(this is right after he passed away I think), in which he is playing word association with Chevy Chase, and the word came up again. And it just kinda weirded me out, I know curse words(except the big ones) have been able to be said, although they were not as commonly used back then as they are now, but I was completely unaware that racially deragatory words could go un-bleeped on what is essintially public tv(this is on a TV affiliate). Has it always been that way, where those words could be said?
March 30, 200620 yr Oprah seems to get away with some, but could you imagine the hell raised by her? Fact is Oprah is bigger any day of the week than Howard Stern ever was, is, and ever will be.
March 30, 200620 yr It's also possible that the Richard Pryor tape was bleeped. So, although he'd get away with it today, he didn't back then. Just admit you watch Montel and Oprah and you like it, already.
March 31, 200620 yr Author Allright, the southern boy was just on. It was actually a pretty cool moment, he came up(walking with a cane, Oprah helped him up), and just came on to apologize for using that word and wanted to tell her he never wanted it to be directed in her direction. He admitted he doesnt use the n-word anymore, and that back then he was just speaking from the only experience he had(growing up in the south...I cant imagine some of the stuff they spew down there). All was forgiven, and he actually sought her out to apologize because he had felt bad for all those years. And, I really dont watch talk shows...when I was little and my grandparents babysat me, it was that old white dude Maurie Povich and rickie lake and Geraldo back to back to back and I just got sick of it at a young age. I go completely against the college age guy norm as well, and even hate Jerry Springer. There are only so many "my miget boyfriend is into s & m and is sleeping with my transsexual sister in law dominatrix while wrestling in a giant bowl of chocolate pudding" episodes one person can take.
