Can someone explain options to me? I always thought that options were in "years" and each player had three.

But I see Wellemeyer came up in May 2003 as did Bump but Wellemeyer was out of options but Bump still has one year left? I am confused.

Help me out...

I believe it involves how many years you're sent down (3 times) and that Bump's stint in AAA in 05 was just a rehab one.

No it wasn't a rehab stint. He went down, started one game and was immediately called back up.

I was asking the same questino and got some good information/explaination

It's hard to know unless you've fully followed a player's career in much detail. How else would you know exactly what year they were added to the 40-man roster and which years they were on it and spent some time on a minor league roster.

true, thats something i dont really much look into unless i come across the information on the player in a article
