Phillips

Featured Replies

General manager Mark Shapiro said Thursday that he will trade Brandon Phillips rather than risk losing him on waivers for nothing.

There are enough teams apparently interested in Phillips that Shapiro is weighing his options.

Is it so hard for people to add a link or identify the source?

That said, Phillips' performance the last three years appears to add nothing to the Marlins roster. His three ML callups have all been failures and he didn't even hit well in AAA last season.

From MLB.com

"Shapiro was asked what went wrong with Phillips, who was considered by many to be the most valuable prospect acquired by the Indians at the time of the Colon deal.

"You can talk about the path a little bit and whether or not we should have kept him in the big leagues as long as we did when he struggled," Shapiro said. "It's more difficult for guys of his profile to make adjustments, because they believe so strongly in their talents. It may take something like this to get them to make those adjustments."

Shapiro said he didn't see significant adjustments in Phillips' approach this spring. His formerly cocky attitude was much improved, as were his numbers. But he still tended to swing for the fences, rather than focusing on contact.

"We saw similar things to what we've seen in the past," Shapiro said. "We didn't see anything we hadn't seen before. You can take that off the record any way you want."

It doesn't take rocket science to figure out something is from rotoworld.

And a little courtesy (or a few keystrokes) might be too much to ask from some...
