Florida to host San Diego in home opener on Tuesday

MIAMI -- The Florida Marlins are set to host the San Diego Padres and the Washington Nationals in a six-game homestand beginning Tuesday, April 11. The opening homestand of the season will feature five fan giveaways (2006 Opening Day poster, 2006 Marlins Schedule Magnet, 2006 Marlins Calendar, Marlins Scratch-Off Saturday Cards, Marlins Flag), and the celebration of Jackie Robinson Day.

The Marlins will host the San Diego Padres for three games beginning Tuesday. This will be the only trip San Diego makes to Miami this season, as the defending NL West champions help the Marlins kick off the Home Opener.

 

Starting Friday, the Washington Nationals will make their first stop of the season in South Florida, as the two NL East rivals square off in the first three of 19 games scheduled against each other this year.

 

Great seats are still available for all games during the Marlins' upcoming homestand, and individual-game tickets can be purchased at the Dolphin Stadium Box Office, the Marlins en Miami Store in Coral Gables, online at www.floridamarlins.com or by calling 1.877.MARLINS.

First Pitch: James Freed, the longest running season ticket holder (since 1992), will throw out the ceremonial first pitch.

Also, Ricky Warman of Papa John's Pizza, will throw out a ceremonial first pitch.

Marine Max Boat Show: Marine Max will be showcasing five boats and one trailer outside of Gates F, G, and H during the Nationals weekend series at Dolphin Stadium. Friday Nights Are Fun: Activities include raffles, a silent auction, grab bags, and more surprises from the time the gates open at 6 p.m. until the bottom of the third inning. Join the fun at the HouseWall Garage System Community Corner, Section 149.

Papa John's Pitcher of the Month: Dontrelle Willis is the Papa John's Pitcher of the month for April. If he earns the win in his start, fans can redeem their Marlins ticket stub for a free small pizza at participating Papa John's locations (walk-in only) during the 48 hours following the game.

Youth Baseball League Day: Kendall Hammocks Optimist, participating in the Marlins Youth Baseball & Softball Program, purchased a significant number of tickets for the today's game. Prior to the game there will be a parade around the warning track honoring the league, plus a board member from the league will be throwing out the ceremonial first pitch.

Special Olympics Awareness Weekend: The Florida Marlins will recognize members of local law enforcement departments, including Broward Sheriff's Office and Miami-Dade Police and Fire Rescue. This is an opportunity for the residents of South Florida to say thank you to the people serving and protecting our community. Also, to increase awareness and help educate the community, the participating departments will bring their emergency response vehicles out to Dolphin Stadium prior to the Sunday, April 16 game for display in front of the main gate. A law enforcement professional will perform the National Anthem while the MDFR & BSO Honor Guard is on hand. Emergency Response personnel will also be on hand to visit with children during ClubHouse Kids, held in section 138.

Jackie Robinson Day: A league-wide celebration of Jackie Robinson, featuring a pregame on-field ceremony and first pitch. The Jackie Robinson Foundation strives to assure that the legacy of Jackie Robinson's activism and commitment to social justice will be carried forth in the personal, community and institutional lives of Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholars as they assume leadership roles throughout society. Since its inception, the Foundation has supported more than 1,100 scholarship recipients. Currently, there are 266 Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholars attending 93 colleges and universities in 33 states across the country.

Youth Baseball League Night: Each of the following leagues is proud participant of the Marlins Youth Baseball & Softball Program. The four leagues purchased more than 3,000 tickets combined for the game Those leagues are: City of Hialeah PONY; Cooper City Optimist; Fletcher Park Softball; Palm Springs North Athletic Association are all participating in the Marlins Youth Baseball & Softball Program. Prior to the game there will be a parade around the warning track honoring each of the leagues.

Boy & Girl Scout Night: All Boy & Girl Scouts from Broward & Dade Counties are invited to attend the Marlins game. More than 750 tickets have been sold for this event with each Scout receiving a 2006 Scout Night patch for their uniform.

Batter's Box Saturday Night Silent Auction: The auction features one special silent auction item. Bidding starts at 4:30 p.m. and concludes with the last out of the third inning. The winner will be notified directly or called on their cell phone. Proceeds benefit the Florida Marlins Community Foundation's Cornerstones for Kids programs

Saturday Night Raffle: Saturday's raffle features three autographed items and starts when the gates open at 4:30 a.m. at the following sections: Gate G lobby, 138, 149, 156, 242 and 449. Be sure to purchase tickets from our volunteers before the first pitch at 6 p.m. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5. Check out our incentives for purchasing multiple tickets. Fiesta Latina: Features live Latin music and entertainment at the Gate H plaza from 4-6 p.m. Salsa Casino Dance studios will be providing free salsa lessons during Fiesta Latina every Saturday. Anheuser Bush, BJ's, Coke, and Leon Medical will be part of the celebration.

Al's Florist: The first 3,000 women in attendance will receive a carnation courtesy of Al's Florist, as part of the Easter celebration.

Clubhouse Kids: Back for the tenth season, Clubhouse Kids is for kids 52-inches and shorter. Look for this activity at section 138 at every Sunday home game, 11:30-12:15 p.m. Danielle Monday serves as the MC for this popular activity. There will be a special visit from uniformed, emergency personnel who will ask the children questions about safety. Every participant receives a prize and there are raffle gifts for the parents.

Doctors Hospital Family Sunday: Includes: Snapshot Sunday at section 130 pre-game for the first 100 fans; Family Funzone at section 130 will be open pre-game through the seventh inning; Dominando con los Marlins will be at the Gate H bar pregame starting at 11:30 a.m.; Diamond Dash (kids run the bases) post-game on the field.

The media will call window will continue to operate at Gate H throughout the season. The Florida Marlins apologize in advance for any inconveniences which may occur.
