Yankees pitcher Randy Johnson was suspended five games by the commissioner's office Thursday for intentionally throwing at Cleveland's Eduardo Perez the night before. New York manager Joe Torre was suspended for one game. Unless Johnson appeals, both penalties are scheduled to begin Friday night, when the Yankees open an interleague series in Washington. Also, Johnson and Torre were each fined an undisclosed amount by Bob Watson, vice president of on-field operations for Major League Baseball. The Big Unit threw way inside to Perez in the seventh inning of New York's 6-1 victory over the Indians on Wednesday night and was immediately ejected along with Torre. Both benches had been warned by umpires in the sixth, when Yankees catcher Jorge Posada and Cleveland starter Jason Johnson exchanged words after Posada was hit by a pitch. pretty weak in my opinon to suspend Randy when he is known as a guy that likes to work the inside of the plate....BLAH
June 15, 200620 yr I don't even understand this suspension. Jason Johnson, who actually hit Posada and then said something to him gets nothing but Randy who came inside at Perez's hands (not head or shoulder) but did not even hit him, gets 5 games (1 start)? Makes no sense at all to me. Major League Baseball should just admit they have no rhyme or reason for their suspensions.
June 15, 200620 yr J. Johnson didn't do anything wrong, Posada overracted. Posada is the reason R. Johnson got suspended. Warnings were issued, then R. Johnson threw at Perez. R. Johnson deserved what he got.

June 16, 200620 yr MLB has become so annoying with their suspensions, warnings and such. Let the guys play the game.
June 16, 200620 yr That's a lame suspension. When you're throwing heat like that, pitches get away from you sometimes.
