Hanley Hates Hair Policy
Oh, we'll be MORE than glad to take Hanley off your hands. We have a bald manager named Terry Francona who really doesn't care how long a player's hair is We'll give you Jed Lowrie and maybe a pitcher named Bowden... Hanley...we still love you in Boston! We'll take you back gladly! What's dat???? Chowdah??? Fenway Pawk??? Go crawl back in your hole and take your stupid Boston accent with you, troll. Just as long as it's the REAL stuff, not that red "Manhattan" abomination they sell in that festering hellhole called NYC Actually, when I lived down in Tamarac, my accent made me stand out from the alter kockers/kvetchers in the condos Just let Hanley be Hanley....that too much to ask? His hair is hardly long. You'd think they'd have learned their lesson from the year of hell Joey Pitbull gave you guys.

Trading Girardi's Contract
has a manager ever been traded for a player? 1967--Mets get Gil Hodges from Senators for P Bill Denehy 1977--Pirates get Chuck Tanner from A's for Manny Sanguillen 2003--Devil Rays get Lou Piniella for Randy Winn And last winter, the Orioles gave up a minor leaguer to get pitching coach Leo Mazzone from the Braves.

Girardi Fired, Gonzalez Hired
Welcome back to the fish Mr. Gonzalez! Long overdue. I am wearing my vintage '91 Miracle hat in honor of this occasion

Girardi Fired, Gonzalez Hired
damn, Fredi...you had hair in '91 @ Pompano!

Girardi Fired, Gonzalez Hired
so, when will the cubs announce girardi as manager? If a former catcher takes over in Wrigley, it'll be Brenly

Girardi Fired, Gonzalez Hired
Good luck to Joe, he deserved better than this piece of sh*t ownership. I hope the boys dont get too affected by this. When you see Stokes' Fu Manchu all grown back and Treanor's goatee return as well, you'll know

Miguel Cabrera Communist?
Ah......Wasn't Chavez democraticly elected? Careful...you're stating a FACT

Would any of you make these trades?
I said it before in another thread and ill say it again here, i truly think our CF is going to come from the rule V draft, someone 24-27 whos at AA, AAA, possibly a RFer with range and an arm. Or its going to be Baldelli or Crawford, we have the system to aquire the likes of either of them. Honestly i'd prefer to have Rocco because hes a natural CFer and has an even friendlier contract. Put him in the two hole and move Uggla down. The Rays will NOT trade Baldelli or Crawford...not unless you want to see Tropicana Field burned down...

Palm Beach Post: Fredi Gonzalez will replace Girardi
Guess you were right about Joey Pitbull all along... :whistle The man does not know how to work with people. Simple. Obviously he does....just ones with smaller egos than the front office. A bully got his come-uppance. Like I been saying for months, Joey Pitbull' s act was going to wear thin. He fired himself when he told Loria to STFU...

Palm Beach Post: Fredi Gonzalez will replace Girardi
YOU DONT FIRE THE MANAGER OF A TEAM THAT MAKES THIS SEASON RELEVANT.... Admin Beinfest made this season relivent. Go watch a Twins game. Go worry about the Reds.....You wish you had a manager as good as Girardi. No I don't. For some reason, Girardi thought he was the manager, GM, and the owner. It doesn't work that way. Wrong. Girardi just wanted to manage without the owner getting caught up in the moment and chirping at the umpire over balls and strikes. Girardi doesnt deserve to be accussed of wanting to be the GM and the owner. Can you guys show a friking ounce of respect to the guy in his last days as manager? Guess you were right about Joey Pitbull all along... :whistle The man does not know how to work with people. Simple. Excuse me but did you go to summer camp with Girardi? How the f*** do you know if he can work with people or not? Let's see...manhandling his players, telling THE GUY WHO SIGNS HIS PAYCHECK to "shut the f--k up" in public... Being more concerned whether or not a player is clean shaven. You want to get the most of your situation, you don't act like a jerk. Granted Loria is no prize, but if Joey Pitbull had any sense, he should have talked to Loria IN PRIVATE, not telling him to STFU in front of everybody. I'd say Joey Pitbull can't work with people.

Palm Beach Post: Fredi Gonzalez will replace Girardi
It should have been Fredi all along. I know him from when he was managing the Miracle in '91. He's a local boy and and also has a longer coaching resume than Joey Pitbull...

Another Girardi Topic
I've been laughing about this. I had a feeling even before the season started that Joey Pitbull wasn't going to last. Anal-retentive control freak...manhandling players. Not a great way to earn respect. Essentially, Joey Pitbull canned himself. He more or less bit the hand that signs his paycheck. For a guy who has that Industrial Engineering degree from Northwestern, he sure as hell knows nothing about tact. Telling your boss to "shut the f--k up" in public isn't exactly going to help you. If he had a problem with Loria heckling the umps he should have talked to Loria behind closed doors and explained that his (Loria's) actions were hurting the team. Any of you who are at FAU..go ask your football coach what happened to him during the 1974 season when he was the head coach of the Colts. Girardi to the Yankees? Ain't gonna happen. Remember that Billy Martin lipped off about Steinbrenner when he said about him and Reggie that "one's a liar and one's a convict?" Martin's ass was gone the next day. Sure, Steinbrenner kept bring Billy back, but Steinbrenner (who I like as much as having a root canal without novocain) probably wouldn't bring in a guy who now has a rep for talking back to owners. Besides, Steinbrenner already has three ex-managers on Torre's staff who'll probably take over when Torre either gets gets canned after this fall's 6th straight post-season choke job (gawd, I hope they choke again) or finally comes to his senses and gets out. Lee Mazzilli, Admin Bowa and Tony Pena. Why go out of your organization when you can just promote from within? The Cubs? Not unless they want a player revolt. I doubt the older guys are going to want to shave. Girardi never should have managed. A year as a bench coach doesn't give you the experience. Either you coach for five years minimum or you manage in the minors BEFORE taking the reins at the big-league level and learn how to work with people. Joey Pitbull didn't and look where it got him.

Best choice for manager in 2007?
Lou- Would he be kinda rough on the boys? Is slamming Olsen into a locker to rough? That Red Sox fan who calls Girardi "Joey Pitbull" would like that reference. Randy Messenger might get jealous. You rang? I KNEW that Joey Pitbull wasn't going to last long. Manhandling Olsen...mouthing off to Loria. Any of you who are at FAU, go ask your football coach about mouthing off to his boss during a game in 1974. A year as a bench coach does NOT give you experience. Compare to the other winning Marlins managers: Jim Leyland: Started out as a manager in the Tigers chain in the 70s...eventially became one of LaRussa's coaches with the White Sox before taking the Pirates gig. Jack McKeon: Managed in Royals system for several years before becoming KC's manager in '73. Did fairly well there..also managed the A's and worked with e Padres before taking over the Reds befre taking over the Marlins. Key point...paying dues in minors and more than one season as a coach at the ML level. Learning to work with players..not throwing them up against a wall. Be more concerned what they do on the field rather than if they *gasp* wear a mustache. I'd love to see Fredi get the job. I know him slightly...used to be at all the Miracle games when they were at Pompano and he did a good job with players that were basically Class A castoffs. Plus having a local boy at the helm could help in getting a stadium. If not Fredi, give Tony Perez another chance. He got a raw deal in Cincinnati. I do feel sorry for the Cubs, if the rumors I hear are true... I'll reply to any post that makes a Schnelly reference! Although i'm not completely sure what he did back in 1974, i'm assuming that the there an arguement between him and Shula? Anyway, as for the rest of the post, I tend to agree with everything you say except the part about giving Tony Perez another chance. I tend to agree with those who believe that the manager's job is highly overrated and there is very little difference from one qualified guy to another. However, that doesn't mean that there aren't good managers and bad ones and i've seen enough of Tony managing to know that i'd rather not live through that again. I'll agree with most that the likely outcome of this is that Gonzalez finally gets this job. With the way his name is always mentioned as a candidate here, he seems destined to manage the Marlins. He was also Beinfest's top choice last year and I think Loria will allow Admin to make the call this time. That said, I will not be shocked if they go after Lou Pinella. You know Loria likes the big names and I believe that Beinfest worked with him with the Mariners, so they probably have a little bit of a history together. In '74, Schnellenberger was in his second year as the head coach of the Colts, and he was using second-year QB Bert Jones over vet Marty Domres who owner Bob Irsay was in love with. Baltimore had gotten off to a poor start that year and during a game, Irsay was down on the field and was ordering Schnellenberger to play Domres. Schnellenberger told Irsay to get the hell off the field and was fired at halftime for doing so. Perez wasn't given a good chance in Cincy...only 44 games and consodering what he had with the Marlins he did a good job on an interim basis in '01. Piniella is bi-lingual, so that would work for him in Miami. He was a flop over here and I have a feeling the Rays job burned him out. I still say Fredi should get it

Reports: Marlins owner, Girardi had 'heated discussion'
1st off, I want to say that I don't like Girardi very much as a manager. When we started 11-31, I said on the boards that we should fire him. I think he gets too much credit because he was "in the Yankees organization". Don't get me wrong, he's done a good job, but our record is an indication of our great GM Admin Beinfest and our great scouts....not Joe Girardi. I think he's a control freak. He doesn't let our players have facial hair. He doesn't like celebrations from players. And now he tells his boss to be quiet?!?! Not to mention, while under contract with the Marlins, he tells the press that the Chicago Cubs managing position is his "dream job"??? This guy doesn't bleed teal like we do and like McKeon and Leyland did! This guy is using us as a stepping stone to get back to New York! I just don't like this guy.....I've always liked Fredi Gonzalez (2 time minor league manager of the year and Latino influence) as a better option. It's not too late to get him! Now I see somebody agrees with me about Joey Pitbull being a control freak. Actually, if he wants his "dream job" (assuming Dusty Baker is let go), let's see if Beinfest will demand compensation and try to get another Willis from the Cubs. I used to go to Miracle games all the time in Pompano..I remember Gonzalez fondly and he's a great handler of young players. Plus, he's a local boy as well who has been another Willie Randolph/Joe Maddon...mentioned/interviewed for jobs and getting passed over too many times. Like Randolph and Maddon, he'll eventually get a gig. I won't be surprised if Girardi is let go. Yeah, I know it's his first year managing, but look what happened to Les Moss with the '79 Tigers and Tony Perez with the '94 Reds...how long did they last in their first year managing? Oh..I forgot to mention Karl Kuehl with the '76 Expos...he didn't last a full season in his only year either... I'd personally like to see Perez get another chance...or bring Cookie Rojas down from the booth...or even Dawson, besides Gonzalez. (It might not be a bad idea to have a LOCAL GUY managing the team in order to help get a STADIUM DEAL IN SOUTH FLORIDA)

Phillies trade C Fasano to Yankees
Anyone else notice the eerie resemblance? They even have the same build... Could have been worse..he could have been sent to the Marlins. As for Made, I've yet to see him play, but no doubt I'll see him if I hit more Threshers games. He can basically keep his apartment in tampa, but the traffic across the Courtney Campbell can be a pain during rush hour.

2006 MLB Trading Deadline
The Red Sox scouted Phillies pitcher Cory Lidle's performance today in hopes of possibly acquiring the right handed pitcher. Today, Lidle pitched eight innings, giving up two runs on four hits and struck out eight in defeating the Diamondbacks, 5-2. Scouts from the Blue Jays and Yankees attended today's game in Philadelphia. Lidle is 8-7 with an ERA of 4.74. Source Lidle could be a good addition to the Sox. Just give him decent backing. I saw Lidle pitch quite a bit for the Rays and knew he had potential...with no support, his stats were misleading.

Elmer Dessens to Dodgers for O.Perez and prospects
This is why I really wanted Dayton Moore for the Red Sox job when we were Theo-less. Good move. High reward on this deal. Well, apart from the Arroyo giveaway, I;m damn glad Theo is back...
