June 30, 200620 yr From "The Marlins Ballpark News".... Robaina just wrapped up his...not interview.... but I'd call it a statement. Important notes: -The city and county are working on getting the issues raised by the DCA report resolved. -On July 6th the county commission will vote on approving changes to the Hialeah Heights plan to comply with the issues raised by the DCA. (I believe rezoning will also take place.) -The dinner/meeting with MLB COO Bob DuPuy lasted 2 hours and was the first meeting between MLB and Hialeah officials. -Major League Baseball is 100% behind the Hialeah plan, and will be involved in negotiations from here on out. -Robaina admits the negotiations are taking longer than he thought. -An announcement will not be made until the deal is completely finished. -The city is looking at placing parking west of Florida's Turnpike. (Outside the Urban Development Boundary.) -Robaina wants to create an enviroment where baseball is not the only attraction. -They will not rush a deal everyone will regret a few years down the road. (A shot at the city of Miami and the Miami Arena debacle.) One last thing, Juan Martinez who works for the Marlins said MLB doesn't get involved in things like this until they are in the stretch run.
