July 21, 200620 yr So I'm looking to get more space as my computer is slow as crap, and I'm only downloading more heavy files... I checked out some of the mainstream stores (Best Buy, Circuit City, etc) and then some of the bargain sites (TigerDirect). I've also received some suggestions from friends and coworkers. I am just curious if anyone has advice on certain brands or websites that I can check out. Obviously I'm looking for the most space for the least amount of money. Generally I'm looking for 250-300 gigs in the 100-150 dollar range. I did find this one pretty cost-effective hd: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se...11&NoMapp=0 I also heard Lacie was a pretty good lesser known brand. What specs should I be looking at? I have no idea what to look for other than space and compatability. Thanks for the help guys!
July 21, 200620 yr Author Thanks for the link. Looks like Cavalry and Beyond Micro are the most affordable drives. But Lacie, Western Digital are not 'that' much more expensive. Is it worth the extra 30 or 40 bucks to get one of the more-known brands? And does anyone have experiene or opinions about the aforementioned brands? Thanks!
July 21, 200620 yr I have two Lacie drives and they have been awesome so far. No problems at all. Don't really know about the other brands, but the Lacie has been quality.

Which Lacie do you have? I am having trouble distinguishing one from the other. I know they have the lego block, but they have the regular one as well.

July 21, 200620 yr I use these at home for storage http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0006FS2F...ce&n=172282 I always liked Seagates drives. Those Lacie units are real nice aswell.
