Miami HEAT, WIOD-610 AM Announces New Radio Broadcast Agreement

MIAMI, Oct. 1 -The Miami HEAT and WIOD-610 AM today announced a new five-year partnership agreement. The new agreement with Clear Channel-South Florida will result in every HEAT game being carried on South Florida radio station WIOD-610 AM. In addition, HEAT game broadcasts will be aired on WBZT-1290 AM in West Palm Beach for the first time.

?The HEAT Group is excited to extend our long-lasting relationship with Clear Channel,? said Michael A. McCullough, HEAT Executive Vice President & Chief Marketing Officer. ?We look forward to a continued successful partnership between the Miami HEAT and all Clear Channel radio stations.?

Play-by-play announcer Mike Inglis will handle the call on WIOD, and HEAT color analyst Tony Fiorentino will join Inglis for several home and select road games.

The new agreement includes two separate weekly HEAT programs. HEAT fans can catch the latest news and special features about the HEAT every Sunday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. during Miami HEAT Magazine on the HEAT?s flagship radio station WIOD, hosted by Jason Solodkin. Clear Channel will also air a special hour of HEAT talk with Jorge Sedano every Thursday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on WRFX-940 AM (FOX Sports Radio).

?The Miami HEAT organization really understands what the partnership is all about. We look forward to working with the HEAT and WIOD, as well as all other Clear Channel-South Florida radio stations,? said Ronna Wolfe, Clear Channel-South Florida Vice President and General Manager.

Remember the Heat's market is only Miami, the Keys, and Palm Beach. They have the entire market covered by radio. The Marlins have all of Florida excluding Tampa Bay, we need a deal like this. Proud flagship, good affiliates, and a weekly radio magazine show.

Here a side note on the TV side. I don't know if its BUT.....ABC channel 10(a pro Dolphin homer station) didn't pick up the Marlins game from ESPN which they had the right to first refusal because the allotted money that they have for local team rights WILL GO ONLY TO THE DOLPHINS like Monday, Sunday night games. If true its total BS and more reason why I can't stand the double standard in this town towards that team. :angry

WPLG claimed it would wipe out it's newscasts and that is why it declined. WSVN picked up the games to boost ratings and provide a good signal for the Marlins who would have ended up on PAX.

Let me find the email address for you to send emails thanking WSVN for picking up the games if you wish.

WIOD for Marlins! Besides my disdain for WQAM, WIOD comes in better in Palm Beach County. Trust they would carry pre and post-game Boog and Dave sessions. Only QAM keeper is Ed Kaplan. He's sober.

Marlins Radio 610 WIOD

Sounds good. The D-Rays have a good deal with 970 WFLA (WIOD's sister station) which includes all night games on WFLA, day games on 620 WDAE due to breaking news during Iraq war, almost all spring training on 620 WDAE, good radio network, promotions on other station in CC's Tampa Bay pod, and Lots of positive talk and news on 620 WDAE.

The Marlins have to look at their markets up in the north of Florida too. Right now, we do not get ANY Marlin's games on TV up here in Tallahassee - excepting those that come in on national broadcasts. This is terrible - even the D Rays have not exploited this market. And now that the Marlins have a winning franchise (because I found I was the only one bit@#ing about not getting Marlin's games) they could really expand their audience and exposure. Just a thought...

jonnylons,

The issue is your cableco doesn't carry FSN Florida. If you get Dish Network or DirecTV you would get the same amount of games on T.V. that I get here in Fort Myers. Same with anyone else in the State of Florida.

The Marlins Radio Network is anemic. We need Clear Channel/WIOD to buy the rights and put us on the air in every market in and around the State of Florida. CC owns a station or more in every Florida Radio Market.

I know that when the Rays started they were on 1270 WFLA in the capital. (I think that is the station, it's the Newsradio station that carries 'Noles games)
