Oldest Known Death in US combat

she is there because it is her god given right and her belief that what she does makes this country free. This country where you or I, or anyone here can post on it and B$tch and moan about nonsense issues often. Where we have the freedoms and rights, for now, or freedom or speach.

She was there because believed inserving her country, a republic.

I applaud her for that and am saddend by her death, but her age means less to me then what she might of believed in and showed she believed in with her service.

I'll buy some of that, but I don't see why a 52 year old woman was sent to Afghanistan. Maybe that's just me.

She was in a construction unit, and it sounds like she was pretty good at it. Regardless of what you think about the war, she was helping people rebuild, and scumbags killed her for it. Save your anger for them.

Ridiculous and awful. Why is she there, and don't give me crap about it's what she wants. :mad

Oh please, do you think a 52 year old woman just signed right up and went off to Afghanistan? No. She has been serving in the military for nearly two decades. And from the article, it sounds like she was a motivated individual who loved serving her country and most certainly wasn't some stereotypical 52 year old grandmother.

She was not part of a combat element, she was part of a civil affairs group who has the job of dealing with the innocent Afghan people on a daily basis to help rebuild their war torn country.

Because the military Army is stretched very thin.

I corrected that for you.

The military is most definitely not stretched thin, just the Army.
