December 8, 200619 yr QHi Kevin, Thank you for answering all of our questions with such class. What is the status of reliever Carlos Martinez? I know he had Tommy John surgery, is he going to be out all of 2007? Thank you. Vince, Miami 12/08/06 ACarlos is already throwing with some reports -- probably false -- saying he's hitting the mid 90s on the radar gun. Sounds like his rehab is a little ahead of schedule but he's still not expected back until May at the earliest. Kevin Baxter 12/08/06 http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/sport...ll/qa_forum.htm He has stated in his little blog/questionare a few times he has heard he is already throwing. Anyone else hear anything of this? I figured he would be out till mid-season earliest
December 8, 200619 yr Martinez had ligament replacement surgery (TJ) the first week of July. I'm not an expert in any of this so if there is one here feel free to correct but isn't the elbow immobilized for six months or so (usually in hard cast)? The normal course of things is for there to be atrophy so a long regimen of exercise is required to strengthen not only the new ligament but all the rest in the area. I can't imagine how he could be throwing now (I am NOT saying it's impossible) since usually even tossing the ball, short then long toss are the last things before the doctor gives his okay to start "throwing". Maybe the guy is a freak. Maybe Dr. Andrews (I assume he did it) has a new rehabilitation technique he's trying but it seems awful soon to me.
December 8, 200619 yr I just found this. From Joe Frisaro writing for SportingNews.com dated December 1st: " RHP Carlos Martinez, who had Tommy John surgery in July, is doing some soft tossing and showing he is ahead of schedule. Still, the righthander isn't expected to return before mid-season." http://www.sportingnews.com/yourturn/viewtopic.php?t=154741
December 8, 200619 yr Author thank you, seems Kevin Baxter is just being dumb Otherwise that would of been amazing for us to have him throwing 90 mph already!
