December 10, 200619 yr Gov't Supporters Break Up Cuba March Sunday December 10, 2006 5:31 PM HAVANA (AP) - Scores of government supporters broke up a silent march by a small group of dissidents marking International Human Rights day on Sunday, roughing up participants and accusing them of being mercenaries and ``worms.'' The demonstration involving fewer than a dozen opponents in a public park in Havana's Vedado neighborhood was interrupted as soon as it began by burly men who pushed and surrounded participants. ``Long live Fidel and Raul!'' the government loyalists chanted, referring to ailing leader Fidel Castro and his brother. ``Down with the worms!'' ``They are mercenaries!'' some of the loyalists shouted of the dissidents. Another silent opposition march was scheduled Sunday in the early afternoon by the Ladies in White, who march after Roman Catholic Mass every Sunday to call for the release of their husbands and other political prisoners held in Cuban jails. December 11, 200619 yr They could at least come up with better insults against the protestors than "mercenaries" and 'worms'.
December 11, 200619 yr They could at least come up with better insults against the protestors than "mercenaries" and 'worms'. :lol I was thinking the same thing.
December 11, 200619 yr calling someone a worm in spanish would be like calling someone scum in english.
December 12, 200619 yr Knowing Latin American countries, this probably would have turned into a bloodbath if those people had weapons. I'm actually surprised the Castro supporters didn't have arms themselves. Plus, the last thing the dissidents need is legitimate charges (like manslaughter) to justify them being in jail.

The ability to fight back against Castro is what separates Cuba from other nations which have successfully revolted against oppressive regimes. The Cuban people can't fight back even if they wanted to. It's why countless oppressive governments and regimes in modern times and all throughout history have been able to succeed so well and for so long, because the dictators and governments ensured that their subjects would not be able to fight back.
December 12, 200619 yr Trust me man, Latin America is a totally different animal from the rest of the world. The Spanish left the place like a sh*thole and it has remained the same since. In Cuba, an armed resistance was attempted. That arm resistance failed miserably. The resistance now would fail even worse than the one in 1961, because the amount of opposition in the island not in jail is limited. The last thing anyone needs is for Cuba to fall to the same fate of Nicaragua, Peru, the Dominican Republic, Colombia, Venezuela, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, and, well, the rest of Latin America save for one or two countries. Oh, and the last time Cubans had guns.....Castro took power. Latins and weapons are a bad idea.
