So, wondering if this show was worth getting in to.

I've heard some good things and a few mixed things. I like drama, is it more drama than sci-fi and action?

If I do try it, should I start with the miniseries or can I just start at season one?

Thanks.

I haven't caught enough of them to keep up with the storyline completely but from what I've seen the show is quite good.

I would say yes, on average there's more drama than sci-fi/action. But some particular episodes have been heavy on the action too. Seems like a good mix. Oh, there's also a smokin' hot evil babe.

The miniseries was done well IMO & sets up the regular series. I'd recommend it.

Personally, I'm a big fan of the show. It's probably in my Top 5 dramas on television right now. (Off the top of my head: Lost, The Wire, BSG, The Shield, Dexter/Big Love)

If you do watch it, you should probably start with the mini-series. It's really pivotal to setting the framwork for the show. It's included with the Season 1 DVD so it shouldn't be too much of a problem. I'd classify the show as a drama (Plot/theme driven with strong character development) that just so happens to take place in space as opposed to a traditional sci-fi show (Greater emphasis on setting and action than character development).

The show is incredibly well-done and I think the premise of the show is an interesting one.

That said, I feel like this show straddles a very thin line with viewers. Traditional fans of sci-fi tend to love the show. Alot of hard-core fans of the 1970 series are not fans of the new version because of changes that were made. (Imagine if Tim Burton's Batman attracted an obsessed following and those fans refused to enjoy the less campy and superior Batman Begins out of principle. That basically sums up the original BSG fanbase.) Then you can divide the people who arn't typically into sci-fi into two groups: Those that look beyond the sci-fi setting, fall in love with the characters, premise and great writing. Or, those that either can't get themselves to look beyond the sci-fi setting or simply can't get into the show.

If you are truly interested in figuring out whether the show is right for you, list some of the reservations/negative feedback you've heard from other people and I can maybe tell you how accurate I think those observations are. Or, if you can get your hands on the miniseries, watch it (It's about 3 hours long) and see what you think.

We have similar tastes CC (Lost, The Wire, The Shield), so I value your opinion.

My brother has a HD DVD player and season one is out on there so I'll probably start watching this soon. I didn't know if the miniseries would be included, but it looks like it is. Awesome.

Thanks for the opinions guys.

Good stuff so far, looking forward to seeing what happens with Gaeta on galactica, SPOILER and what happened to Adama and Col. Tigh.
