Keys to winning Game 7

Featured Replies

Same thing as for today:

We need a quality start (Redman is just the man for the job).

Keep Lofton off base. Eventhough he got on (by hitting, not walking, big difference) and scored, we were able to limit his effectiveness for the rest of the game.

Score early. Wood is going to come out steaming like a raging alcoholic (sorry for the non PC simile...but he looks like one to me). We gotta make him overthrow, make him pitch. Make good contact and we have a shot.

This team has all the confidence and magic right now. No one has believed in us - all season. They laughed when we predicted 90 wins. They laughed when we kept Lowell. They laughed when we traded for Urbina, Conine. They were perplexed by getting Fox. They tore us apart for letting Millar go. They insulted us by attacking our signing of Pudge and rolled on the floor with the CJ/PW/Hampton deal.

We got Pierre out of it who set 5 team records.

We got 91 wins.

We got past the Giants in 4.

Right now, we are poised to come back from a 3-1 deficit against America's darlings, the Cubs, and get a trip to the World Series.

We all know, the pressure is on the Cubs. We are used to pressure - we will bring it tomorrow. Now, lets seal the deal.

Redman has to have the game of his life. And for those of you who do not know Redman, Cardinal fans and White Sox fans (who may know him from Detroit Tiger days...), here is a little something to put your wandering mind at ease:

And so now the question becomes: Is Game 7 starter Mark Redman up to the challenge of facing Cubs co-ace Kerry Wood? Vern Ruhle, speaking from his parents' home in Coleman, Mich., just laughed.

"I promise you this," said Ruhle, recently reassigned from his duties as Mets pitching coach. "Mark will be ready for Game 7. He's mentally tough. I can definitely envision him pitching a very good game."

Nine years ago, as a sophomore at the University of Oklahoma, Redman went 5-0 in the NCAA tournament as the Sooners won the College World Series.

Redman didn't pitch the final, but he beat Arizona State in the semifinals. Ruhle, then Oklahoma's pitching coach, recalls Redman thriving in a highly pressurized atmosphere.

"He shut 'em down," Ruhle said of the big left-hander. "He dominated throughout the game. He was totally under control."

can u believe it?

the worst team is baseball (tigers)gave a pitcher away that has become maybe the best pitcher on a team(marlins)that can win the ws.

Well, for the Marlins to win, they have to concentrate and stop relying on last minute comebacks. Josh Beckett pitched an awesome game, if we can keep this up, nothing can stop us. Do anyone think that Redman can step up to the plate? Well, I do.

Marlin97

why cant they rely on last minute comebacks?

thats how they got this far.

if they got 1 win away from going 2 the ws with comebacks than they can win the ws by winning game by comebacks

i rather them just get a big lead and win it that way-but this is the way they do it-what can i say?-comebacks are not a problem.

score first...

score in abundance....

step on their throat...

and end their season

The Cubs proved last night they have no heart or resilliance.

If the marlins get 2 or 3 early runs, the cubs will roll over and die.

Point well proven Marlins. The Florida Marlins have always showed their preservance, even if it means winning the game in the ninth inning. I am just scared that reality might set in. But, with the the Florida Marlins; they will never die or roll over when the game seems over like game 6.

I have ultimate confidence that we could come back from any deficit.

But, lets save a couple of the comebacks just in case for the series after the NLCS

The Main Keys to winning game 7 are simple:

We have momentum gained and the Cubs and Wood have much pressure on them...What we need to do is be aggressive on the basepaths and Redman can't let the Cubs score early like they have been doing.

There was a Spanish conquistador, the name slips my mind, that when he and his troops landed on the New World, he burned their boats. He burned them to make his troops focus and get the job done that they came to do (sure, rape, pillage, and plunder...but that is not the point).

Right now, our ship is on fire.

Let it burn.

We dont need it.

Win Game 7.
