October 17, 200322 yr I thought we were going to put all this on the back burner until after the post-season, but since it's being discussed here goes.... What exactly about the last three weeks has caused everyone to all of a sudden think that alot of the high priced arby-elidgible players are coming back? Nothing has changed. Pudge: 10mil deferred over the next three years while under contract through the end of this year - Goodbye. With his outstanding performance this year he's a hot commoditiy. Stop pipe-dreaming about hometown discounts and all that pie in the sky nonsense. He came here to prove his value for a juicy contract somehwere else next year, and he did just that. Plus, you've got Castro and Redmond. Lee: Goner. Way, way overpriced in arbitration. Not to mention the fact you've got a 1b under contract through the next year in Conine. Encarnarcion: Here to stay, way way cheaper than Lee, and a pretty darn good right fielder. Lowell: They might pay him enough to stay, but be careful what you wish for. Keeping Lowell and his huge price tag would mean alot less to go around for the other players. If Lowell stays (Which he probably won't) the Fish will be Milwaukee south, one highly paid all star around young prospects and cheap veteran retreads. Anyway, I'm all for the live in the moment philosophy. We'll have 6 months to aruge, debate and insult each other over this issue soon enough.
