October 16, 200322 yr Chicago has a alot of hope for next year. Patterson will be back for us and we have pay roll to mess with. I was wondering what you guys think the Marlins will do next year? Willl this be like 97'
October 16, 200322 yr minor changes.... the core will return.... only essential piece that may not return is pudge....but for some reason i see that as more and more a possibility each and every day.

Willl this be like 97' AAAAAAHHHHH!!!! I HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE people asking that question about '97, especially Marlins fans. This is a different ownership, and it's six years later. There are no high-priced, long-term free agents that we can't pay here. THIS IS A TOTALLY DIFFERENT SITUATION. espo- I hope you understand I'm not directing this anger towards you. It was just the quote I've heard so many times already from Marlins fans and non-fans alike. It just happenend to be yours that I responded to
October 17, 200322 yr minor changes.... the core will return.... only essential piece that may not return is pudge....but for some reason i see that as more and more a possibility each and every day. I'm pretty sure Lee won't be back next year, and the long term signing of Conine made sure of that. There are going to have to be some changes, but not to the point were we won't contend for a championship next year, because our rotation is going to be even better with Burnett coming back.
October 17, 200322 yr at one point I'd have said Lee's 100% goner. Now I'm not so certain.... maybe 75%.
October 17, 200322 yr at one point I'd have said Lee's 100% goner. Now I'm not so certain.... maybe 75%. I think this post-season might be showing us that Carcy might be the one not coming back.
October 17, 200322 yr The whole right side gets replaced. Why? Castillo will stay, and there's no reason why BOTH Lee AND Encarnacion would leave.
October 17, 200322 yr we cant keep everyone. i think lee and carny will be gone and as for burnett i dont see him in our rotation next year due to his elbow. i see him coming out of the bullpen. maybe setup man or closer depending wut happens wit ugie, looper, and fox.
October 17, 200322 yr Dagreatone is wrong buddy....its either lee or carny not both..most likely carny cuz he can be replaced by miggy..lee must stay cuz of defense and bat coming around..i do agree burnett will pitch out of the pen but both lee and carny will both not be gone i think we will lose maybe 3 players that are important...carny,ugie,pavano,and maybe agon
October 17, 200322 yr you people... :: HOLDING IT IN :: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH cant this wait for 1 more week?
October 17, 200322 yr Pudge is definitely staying for two reasons: Although he know he could get more money elsewhere, he wants to live in Florida, where he resides with his family. Second, Pudge has been looking for this for a long time: he finally gets to play for a team that is very close to win a title. I believe Ivan will take less money to stay in the Marlins organization, but it all depends on what the management offers to other players like Castillo. Probably Encarnacion will be gone, but I don't see why Lee would be...could someone explain this to me? :unsure :
October 17, 200322 yr dlee and carny go. and we know who goes in RF wishful thinking? maybe. but stranger things have occured
October 17, 200322 yr Probably Encarnacion will be gone, but I don't see why Lee would be...could someone explain this to me? he could make anywhere from $6-9mil in arb and he aint worth it
October 17, 200322 yr Urbina will definitely be gone. You can quote me on that. DLee will also most probably be gone. I have a feeling there's a good chance Mike Lowell might go, too. From an accounting standpoint, they might not want to keep Pudge because of how much he'll be demanding next year. However, I think Loria realizes he'll piss off his entire new fan base if their one star isn't re-signed, so he'll probably stay. Enc might or might not go. If Mike goes and Enc goes, then we'd have a gap to fill, but I think we could probably fill the gap with whomever we collect from the impending DLee trade.
October 17, 200322 yr There are more question marks than answers right now. I dont think making the World Series has solved the financial problems so I think there will be several changes. My guess is Encarnacion will go. Lee will go. Castillo will go. Pudge will go too. I don't know the exact situation of the rotation, as far as contracts go, but I'm wondering if Redman will be back. It's an awful lot to ask to have AJ back, especially early. I'm pretty sure Urbina is a rent a player, as well as Chad Fox. These are probably necessary adjusments because the Marlins are on a limited budget. Just as they were this year. LeBatard has already dropped the "D" word in a damning with faint praise article he wrote last week. I emailed him about it, and he told me to "buck up". But we all know that his position was established early to be a Marlins basher. This success must be killing him.
October 17, 200322 yr we dont need lee next year-he costs to much money and were gonna bring up strokes from the minors.

October 17, 200322 yr we dont need lee next year-he costs to much money and were gonna bring up strokes from the minors. I don't think Stokes will be ready to be an everyday 1st Baseman in the bigs next year. Though...that's probably what was said about Cabs too.....
October 17, 200322 yr Dagreatone is wrong buddy....its either lee or carny not both..most likely carny cuz he can be replaced by miggy..lee must stay cuz of defense and bat coming around..i do agree burnett will pitch out of the pen but both lee and carny will both not be gone i think we will lose maybe 3 players that are important...carny,ugie,pavano,and maybe agon Lee must stay..okay i agree with you there..he's great defensively and the marlins know this, but the fact is we can't afford him, its as simple as that
October 17, 200322 yr The whole right side gets replaced. Why? Castillo will stay, and there's no reason why BOTH Lee AND Encarnacion would leave. Of the three, Lee, Enc and Castillo, I agree that Castillo is the least likely to be moved/sign elsewhere as a free agent. And I am loathe to see him leave, don't get me wrong. But if we're going to make a run at keeping Pudge and signing Lowell and dare I say it, Uggie, the money has to come from somewhere. The three guys (Lee, Enc, Castillo) will probably represent somewhere in the vicinity of $16-18-20 million in payroll in 2004. You'll hear it often from me in the off-season, but the guy I want, who is affordable, is Jay Gibbons from Baltimore. Plays RF and 1B. The Orioles would love to get Lee and expressed an interest in Enc at mid-season, I think there's a deal to be made there. Go Fish !
October 17, 200322 yr In our hearts we all want Pudge to stay and he proved that if anything hes gotten BETTER with age. The question is do we tie up a large part of our future in one player with his injury past? Depends on if the stadium issue more clear and we have SURE sources of income otherwise it doesn't make any sense.
October 17, 200322 yr Lee is the most likely to go because a GG 1B is just too much of a luxury for a financially struggling team.
