Good Places to buy Memory

Featured Replies

I know about Crucial and DMS, but wonder if anything better is out there. It is an older Compaq (circa 1999) that needs two 128MB SDRAM sticks. I know the machine is ancient, but it runs Windows XP just fine and we need to keep it for storage/archive uses.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

E-Bay normally has the cheapest prices online.

Just make sure that the buyer has a high rating, and also that you aren't being ripped of on shipping.

I normally buy from New Egg though for security reasons.

Gotta second the newegg recommendation. I've used them for memory for desktops and laptops, everything comes quickly and the prices are very fair.

They also have very good customer service from my experience. And if they can't help you, they'll point you to where you can get help.

So I follow up on NewEgg, but they don't have the model of my machine. :(

Found this on my own: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820141421

Here is what Compaq says officially:

System Memory 96MB 100 MHz SyncDRAM, upgradable to 384 MB (SyncDRAM DIMM required)

Sorry about my ignorance on memory. I have only bought it once before, and that was for my idiot-proof Blueberry Apple iBook which I restored to functionality again by adding a nice big stick of memory and install Mac OS X Panther.

I am so ready to move this old machine to Ubuntu. :lol

If Ubuntu could only run Internet Explorer........hmmm

Dude I have so much old RAM I can give you a few sticks of that for free. I probably have a combination of a few 128's and a few 256's.
