July 20, 200719 yr MIAMI -- The Florida Marlins announced today a new partnership with the Florida Department of Transportation to support the State's "Click It Or Ticket" campaign. The partnership will help to ensure that Marlins fans "Buckle Up. Every trip. Every time." As part of the initiative, local law enforcement officers will be on-site at Dolphin Stadium parking lots prior to three Marlins home games on July 20, Aug. 17 and Aug. 31, distributing Marlins ticket vouchers to future Marlins regular season home games. The tickets will be given to select fans as a reward for wearing their seat belt. The Marlins and the Florida Department of Transportation are also encouraging fans to visit the "Buckle Up Driver Booth" located at on the 100-level concourse during the weekend series against the Cincinnati Reds (July 20-22) to learn more about this state-wide initiative. Fans will also have the opportunity to create their own "Buckle Up. Every Trip. Every Time" safety pledge that could be featured on the stadium's high definition video boards during future games. As part of the "Click It or Ticket" campaign and to promote overall seat belt safety, the Florida Department of Transportation has provided the following facts: ? Summer is the deadliest time of year on the highways for unrestrained traffic fatalities. ? Men are less likely to buckle up. Male usage rates were recorded at 76.8% while female compliance reached 85.7%. ? In 2005, more over 20% of passengers involved in fatal vehicle crashes did not survive because they did not buckle up. ? A child out of their car seat or booster seat will count as a Safety Belt violation if a driver is pulled over. ? People who drive trucks are less likely to buckle up than those who drive a car or SUV.
