July 31, 200719 yr "On another front, a team source said the long-term deal Martin is trying to work out with Stephen Weiss has been delayed because Weiss is looking for a contract similar to the six-year, $24M deal Nathan Horton signed in June. Problem is, despite scoring 20 goals and finishing fourth in team scoring with 48 points last season, Weiss hasn?t proven himself worth those kind of numbers yet." http://www.palmbeachpost.com/blogs/content...dor_hearin.html With a wide gap separating the Panthers and restricted free agent center Stephen Weiss in contract negotiations, at least other three teams have inquired about signing him to an offer sheet, Weiss' agent, Pat Morris, said Monday. "Not to get into the parameters of it, but we're talking about a long-term deal and there seems to be a major difference in how they view Stephen as compared to Nathan Horton," Morris said. "That's why we're not signed." http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/hockey/...0,5477917.story weiss wants 3.25+ it seems
July 31, 200719 yr Can we trade him, or we would just get compensation in the form of draft picks if another team signs him?
July 31, 200719 yr I'm really waiting on better, more credible confirmation than Steve Freakin' Gorten. However, I do believe that there is a gap more along the lines of what Biggane said. Martin is level headed. Thats why I believe this will not be a problem.

August 1, 200719 yr Author Report: Weiss, Panthers far apart in talks Stephen Weiss TSN.ca Staff 8/1/2007 11:47:09 AM If the Florida Panthers can't come to terms with restricted free agent Stephen Weiss, it appears there may some other teams interested in his services. According to the South Florida Sun Sentinel, Weiss' agent Pat Morris has said at least three other teams have expressed interest in his client. "Not to get into the parameters of it, but we're talking about a long-term deal and there seems to be a major difference in how they view Stephen as compared to Nathan Horton," Morris told the Sun Sentinel. "That's why we're not signed." Horton, who was also a restricted free agent, signed a 6-year, $24 million extension this summer. When asked if Weiss was looking for the same deal, Morris told the newspaper "that's too strong of a statement." Last season, Weiss finished with career highs in goals (20) and points (48) in 74 games with the Panthers. Weiss is reportedly looking for a contract in the neighbourhood of $3.25 million per year, which is the deal that Mikko Koivu signed with the Minnesota Wild. But the Panthers would be leaning toward the deal worth $2.5 million per season Lee Stempniak signed with the St. Louis Blues. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=215237&hubname= TSN work for a better source then the local papers?

They got it from the Sun-Sentinel. My only issue is Steve Gorten's report. He sucks.
