If Gathright was in camp at ST, De Aza may not have been and for sure De Aza is in AA/AAA this season by platooning young players, you then stunt their growth as a player

De Aza wouldn't have had a snowball's chance in hell. But if he were brought in say... before the deadline, it would only make sense with the season lost.

By the way, this is all irrelevant.

August 15, 200718 yr trade him for a 4th outfielder who plays mediocre defense, has an arm weaker than Pierres, despite his speed isnt an exception base stealer, doesnt get XBH(84% of his hits have been singles), and has a career OPS under .700. And is 3 years older than Olsen. He isnt worth a Scott Olsen. A Ricky Nolasco? Maybe. But not a Scott Olsen. Mediocre defense? No. Arm weaker than Pierre's? No. Stronger. 75% on the basepaths? Good basestealer. .419 OBP. It's not everyone's job to drive in runs, clown. Mediocre defense? Yes. He has been roughly average or below defensively whereever he has played. His speed doesnt make up for the fact that he doesnt judge balls well. Arm weaker than Pierres? Yes, one of the few that can say that. 75% isnt exceptional for someone with his speed. His OBP wont stay at .419. Once again, Joey Gathright is a 4th outfielder in MLB. Scott Olsen has the talent to be a #2. Gathright isnt worth Scott Olsen, now, then, or ever. He judges flyballs fine. Average judgment + exceptional speed = above average defense. This is not rocket science. Mediocre defenders don't rob homeruns on back-to-back nights. As someone who has watched both Pierre and Gathright extensively for years, I can say without a doubt that Gathright has the stronger arm. He can hit third base from medium centerfield on a line that is not a rainbow. 75% may not be "exceptional for someone with his speed," but a 75% success rate in stealing bases is a good rate for a basestealer. So, he's a good basestealer. Gathright has shortened his swing to take advantage of his speed down the line, and he maintains a good eye at the plate. There is no reason to believe he won't continue to have a high obp.
