August 22, 200719 yr Florida Sports Buzz ? Though Marlins president David Samson prefers not to keep pitcher Scott Olsen if he's convicted on DUI and felony charges of resisting arrest, others internally disagree. Word is the Marlins' baseball people have no interest in trading him. ? People inside the Marlins point to departures from last year's coaching staff as one of several explanations for Florida's horrible defense. (The Marlins lead baseball in errors.) Players privately talk about how former infield coach Perry Hill (who retired in March) is missed and that replacement Andy Fox -- while competent -- can't possibly have Hill's wealth of knowledge. And one Marlins official pointed to Gary Tuck's departure as a factor in Miguel Olivo's major decline. ''We did a lot of blocking, throwing and receiving drills with Tuck last year,'' Olivo said of the '06 bench coach/catching guru who was fired with buddy Joe Girardi. ``This year, we're not doing much.''
August 22, 200719 yr Oh shut up Olivo. Lacking so starkly in the basic fundamentals of catch and throw has nothing to do with coaching but a player's own inability.

August 22, 200719 yr LOL so I guess if the coach doesn't stand over your shoulder and tell you what to do constantly you forget it.
August 22, 200719 yr So, do the damn drills with your teammates. Once you have learned a way to practice that you feel is positive and productive, it is really OK to still do them without being forced to. Hey Olivo, that may be defined as being a professional-try understanding the concept. We all learn from people as we mature in life. We take these lessons with us. You think Tuck invented these drills? No, he learned them from someone and then maybe added to it and modified some. He didn't just forget them once his mentor went somewhere else. This stinkin attitude explains an awful lot about Olivo and the hole in his glove.
August 22, 200719 yr Exactly, he can do the drills with his teammates. Show the old coach what you learned from him and don't us him as an excuse.
