August 28, 200718 yr President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad warned Tuesday that a power vacuum is imminent in Iraq and said that Iran was ready to help fill the gap. "The political power of the occupiers is collapsing rapidly," Ahmadinejad said at a press conference in Tehran, referring to U.S. troops in Iraq. "Soon, we will see a huge power vacuum in the region. Of course, we are prepared to fill the gap, with the help of neighbors and regional friends like Saudi Arabia, and with the help of the Iraqi nation." http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D8...;show_article=1
August 28, 200718 yr FutureGM is going to like this! Yes, I too find it interesting the situation here. I mean on one hand we have to ask ourselves whether a pullout is worth it if this happens but on the other hand... Oh wait, your post wasn't meant to be constructive
August 28, 200718 yr Of course, we are prepared to fill the gap, with the help of neighbors and regional friends like Saudi Arabia, and with the help of the Iraqi nation." friends like Saudi Arabia, eh? I highly doubt the Saudis are referring to Iran as "their friend".
August 28, 200718 yr I wish Saudi Arabia was much better than Iran. However, this is all just talk until they make a real move.
August 31, 200718 yr I challenge Iran to try. Are we supposed to be scared or mad that Iran wants to muscle some country that we hated so much in the last 20 years we invaded it twice? Who cares, I really do not think we can clean all the world's messes...we have historically just made more in the process.
August 31, 200718 yr Who cares, I really do not think we can clean all the world's messes...we have historically just made more in the process. Unfortunately, it's the truth. It generally happens to all countries who have colonies or vassal states (ie. France, Great Britain, etc.).
August 31, 200718 yr True, I just find it hilarious that for some reason I am supposed to be angry enough to bomb Iran because they want to occupy a fpreign nation that is heir nemesis which actually killed hundreds of thousanas of their people. Not that this makes what Iran might do right, but it is like Vietname...do I really care if South Vietnam is a mess and North Vietnam occupies it? Is South Vietname the 51st state? Who cares! Only in hindsight can we see that certain elements of interventionism worked out, such as in Korea. No one would doubt we are better with both north and south korea than just a north korea. But, are we better off after what we did in Cuba, Chile, Iran, Afghanistan, Iraq, Nicaragua, and etcetera during the 50s to 80s? Another thing which is glaring, but our country closes its eyes and gets blown away, is our needless support for Israel. Now, I support Israel, but I do not think that they need 3 billion in US aid nor do we need the blame that entails...nor do we need to also give Egypt, Palestine, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia billions of dollars in order to counter what we gave to Israel. Sort of what John Stewart said, "Oh billions of dollars, is there any dispute you can't settle?" If we had no troops in the middle east and were giving none of these states billions to arm against each other (Iraq and Iran are 2 great examples) we would have much less problems. It simply amounts to idiocy to believe we should intervene more and not less when one considers the track record. Quite frankly, gas isn't that cheap now, and I do not think any policy meant for "stabilizing" the middle east is worth it for any humanitarian or economic reason. I saw we invest those billions back home with our own dilling, alternative fuels, or here's a bold idea: paying down the national debt so we don't need to borrow money from China to fight a war in Iraq.
