October 16, 200718 yr http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-angels...1&cset=true What is with the mass exodus of exceptional GMs?
October 16, 200718 yr I'd hardly call Bill Stoneman an exceptional GM Oh really? The team on the field thinks otherwise. The three division title and world championship banners in leftfield think otherwise as well.

The Giants were the third winningest team in baseball over Brian Sabean's first 9 years as GM, and he's one of the worst GMs in baseball...you can't evaluate a GM based solely on a team's win-loss record, you have to look at the kind of moves they make...stack up the good moves against the bad moves, and the bad moves definitely outweigh the good ones

Stoneman may not have been the best, but he was in the upper echelon.

The credit for that goes to Tony Reagins, the guy they just promoted to GM great on field management and stability to boot. so bill stoneman didnt make the big trades of said farm talent or so they didnt make the biggest free agent signings. It was so stupid...every year the team had gaping holes, had expendable guys they could use to fill those holes, and he always did nothing...and most of the free agents he signed in recent years have been mistakes...Steve Finley, Bartolo Colon, Gary Matthews, Shea Hillenbrand, etc. stoneman did have vladdy signed under his watch, the colon issue, i dont think anyone saw coming in the manner in which it did. The Guerrero signing was obvious Moreno's decision Stoneman may not have been the best, but he was in the upper echelon. then why have Angel fans been calling for his head all these years?
