Posted October 18, 200717 yr TORONTO -- Panthers' goalie Tomas Vokoun will not play against the Maple Leafs Thursday night after injuring his foot in Tuesday's game.Backup Craig Anderson will start in his place. Vokoun did not practice on Wednesday, a night after stopping 36 shots in a 2-1 shootout victory at Montreal. He did not indicate that he had suffered an injury in the game. But Thursday, the team said Vokoun was hurt in the third period of Tuesday's game when teammate Mike Van Ryn slid into him while trying to make a play. This will be the second start of the season for Anderson. He lost his first start 2-1 at Tampa Bay in the third game of the season. Florida has won three straight after an 0-3 start. The Panthers will bring up goalie David Shantz from their minor league affiliate in Rochester to serve as Thursday's backup. The team hopes to have Vokoun back for Saturday's game at Ottawa. LINK
October 18, 200717 yr Well, at least we have a damn fine backup in Anderson, unlike last year when Auld starting was almost an automatic loss at certain points of the season.
October 18, 200717 yr Even though T-vo has been playing great as of late, it will give the youngster a chance so we can see what he can do.
October 18, 200717 yr Better it happen now than down the stretch. However Anderson played great in his start against Tampa, so you have to feel pretty confident that he can hold things down until Vokoun gets healthy again.
