March 5, 200818 yr The more I have time to react to the big trade I think we made out like bandits. With the understanding that a team like the Marlins, even with a new stadium, can only have one 10 million+ player until the stadium is built...then that player has to be Hanley and not Cabrera. And it sure looks like we sold as high as possible on Cabrera. Too bad we didn't take that Willis deal that Detroit susposedly offered two years ago. If this organization ever signs Hanley long term and gets even 1/4 of the pitching prospects to develop we are all going to be in for one helluva long ride of consistent winning. Had to make a small edit, but besides that 100% correct. All of the haters are going to "get it" in 2-3 years when all the pitching is ready, and at least a few of Maybin, Coghlan, G. Sanchez, J. Miller, Cousins, L. Morrison, etc are ready to contribute
March 6, 200818 yr Tigers fan here to give my opinion of Maybin and Miller. I think both have great raw talent, but they are both also pretty raw. I think you will have to be patient with both of them. I wouldn't expect them to produce right out of the gate. Miller has a great fastball (can get it up to the upper 90s as a lefty, and his 2 seamer has a ton of movement), and his height and delivery don't even give lefthanders a chance to hit him. But the Marlins will have to refine his delivery. He throws across his body, leaving him at risk for injury and negatively affecting his command. His command is his big problem right now. If he starts for the Marlins this year, I would expect a lot of walks and inefficient pitch counts, leading to short outings - at least at the beginning of the year. Miller is also too reliant on his fastball. The Marlins will have to work with him to perfect his slider, and develop a changeup. Maybin is a great athlete. He has all the tools, but he will have to work on his batting (I'm no scout, but his swing looked long to me, and he could be had on offspeed pitches), outfield routes and throwing. His game is raw at the moment, so I think he would benefit from spending time in AA. I hope they (and all the players who were traded) work out for you.

March 6, 200818 yr If the Tigers win a championship then the trade will be good for them regardless of how Miller and Maybin do. If Cabs signs long-term, then it will at least not be awful even if Miller and Maybin turn into total studs.
