24 for USF is really good... I wouldn't expect them to surpass any of those schools, yet anyways... but it's a sign of amazing improvement.

Well, they've been competing with the equivalent of Florida's recruiting "table scraps", so I definitely expect improvement as the classes improve... as for the Big East, that's just terrible luck that everyone else in the conference disappeared... wasn't too long ago Louisville and WVU were national title contenders.

One guy being such big news is not consistently. They are fighting UM for another prospect though in Kayvon Webster we will see on Wednesday what happens.

2. His mom didn't want him to leave

My point though, is not specifically that there is one guy, but coupled with the HUGE increase in recruiting class levels, it's gonna be reasonable to expect this to happen more often. The precedent just needed to be set.

For a team that just started playing D1-A football eight years ago, it's impressive that they have already compiled a Top 25 recruiting class.

Now that they play in a major conference I think if over an extended period of time (say 5 or 7 years or whatever) they win more games than two of big three then I would consider them legit.

The thing is... USF isn't a super power... they're 8 years old as a D1A program... the kind of progress they've made in that time is astounding. They're not gonna be NC contenders overnight... but how many programs can say they've been ranked as high as 2 in their first 8 years... how many have gotten top 25 (nationally) recruiting classes in that same time.

 

It's similar to what I've said before, success will beget better recruits which will beget better success... if USF beats (or plays really close) with Miami in their series, you'll see even more of an impact... same with the FSU game they'll play. They've been successful with table scraps... give them a cheesburger, let alone a t-bone steak and good things will happen.

Ok, yes they've been ok so far but they haven't really done anything earth shattering. Back to back 9-4 seasons is about what I'd expect from the 4th major power playing in the Big East and scheduling OOC games against teams like TN. Martin, FIU, UCF, Elon and FAU. Good for an 8th year team though, I suppose but don't knock Florida scraps...hell even Rutgers look good just recruiting Florida scraps.

 

My whole point about USF is that every year someone wants to come out and claim they are the 2nd or 3rd best team in the state, but it's not true until I see *insert my original point about getting recruits here*.

 

Yes, winning may beget more recruits against UF and UM, but I just don't see it happening yet or anytime soon. I think they took advantage of a few down years and turmoil within the FSU and UM programs to get some excellent scraps, but I see both programs (esp. UM) righting the ship soon. So if they start winning more, it just makes life that much harder for USF even if they are still putting up 9-4 (or better) seasons.

 

They should be at this point attempting to put a fence around the Tampa/St. Pete area and while Giddins is a start, they are still letting the top ranked guys like Aaron Murray, Orson Charles and DeMonte Mcallister get away.
