November 8, 200322 yr The Official Site of the Orestes Destrade Winter Baseball League What is the Destrade Winter League? -The Destrade Winter League is half fantasy baseball and half simulation baseball. The league, ideally, will consist of 16 teams, each with unique players and lineups, which will be determined by a draft. A schedule will be produced and the 16 teams will embark on a winter long schedule of simulations, based on 2003 statistics, using the SimMatchup Engine from WhatIfSports.com. While the engine has some minor flaws, it is still produces compelling results. For example: Josh Beckett & the '03 Fish shut out the '97 Marlins The website can simulate games pitting teams from all eras against each other. However, it also has a "Dream Team" feature, which allows you to build your own teams. This is what we will be doing. I, Big Hugg, will be the commissioner and will not be competing, while you will manage (more like general manage) your team to, hopefully, for you, the 4 team playoff in March. There is no cost to join, we're just doing this for fun. If you're interested in joining up, PM me on, post here, or e-mail me (biggy734@msn.com). This is a truly unique way to test your baseball knowledge and will also allow us all to get our much-needed baseball fix as we continue to celebrate our World Champion Florida Marlins. There's 3 spots left, make sure you get one of them! Rules & Regulations -All teams consist of 20 players (C, 1b, 2b, 3b, SS, 3 OF, 4 Bench, 4 SP, 4 RP). Players are only eligible to play the positions they are categorized under by whatifsports.com. There is an entire listing of all eligible players, by position, above. -6 games will be simulated a week. Teams will play 3 game series, I will simulate 1 series on Sunday and 1 on Thursday. Your starting lineup for a Sunday series will be due by Saturday night at midnight eastern, for Thursday series, it's due on Wednesday night at midnight eastern. -You can make trades and you can sign players. Trades can be made at any time (except on Thursdays and Sundays). Free agent moves can ONLY be made on Monday. There will be a list of available free agents after the draft. -The draft will be held as soon as we've filled the league. It will be held here in the MarlinsBaseball.com forums (unless that's a problem). The order will be set randomly and then we'll just go. It would take too long to do it at one time, so everyone needs to check the draft topic as often as they can to see who's up, etc. My target date for the beginning of this league is Sunday, November 23rd. -Remember, when drafting, this isn't a "fantasy" team so to speak. You need to try to build a real team, meaning you need a lead-off hitter, etc. Don't think of this as the best stats win, because they don't, it's a team deal. -The winner of the league will gain a free month of VIP status here. (Thanks to Admin) If you have any more questions, you know how to reach me.
November 9, 200322 yr Author Wut is it how u play it? It's a fantasy baseball simulation. We'd hold a draft to pick teams and then the games would be simulated by the whatifsports.com simulator. Just a couple of notes: -If we do this, I'm not going to have a team, just to get that clear. I have too much control over everything, as far as schedules and running the simulations, to have a team. It's not like I'd cheat, but I don't even want the thought in people's minds. I'd simply be the commissioner/facilitator. -If Willis is in, we still need 3 more people, at least. I'd still like to get 16 though, to enable divisions and playoffs.
November 9, 200322 yr Author There is no cost. The leagues on their site cost money, but I'm not going to do it that way, doing it independently, using their simulator for results.
November 9, 200322 yr Author I dropped everyone who told me they're in a brief private message about the league. I've also now added the eligible player list, the monster that it is. We've still go 9 spots open, come on guys, you know you want in. Ramp, Admin, Wild Card, we need to get all the "baseball minds" in this thing.
November 9, 200322 yr Author That's where all the info is stored, but all moves and such have to be done through me, by PM or e-mail (biggy734@msn.com). Unfortunately, I just don't have the capability or knowledge to put together a site where everyone could enter their own info, so I have to facilitate everything.
