November 9, 200322 yr http://www.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/awards/y...sive_player.jsp not that these mean anything, since the fans vote i was surprised to see you didn't vote for giants players for individual performance and defensive player of the year. i was about to call you a not-homer until i looked at the voting and saw there were no options for giants players for those categories. i bet if cruz was an option for defensive player of the year, you'd still pick him over anyone else.
November 9, 200322 yr For the record, I think that the whole Marlins IF should have been up for the Defensive award, but oh well.
November 9, 200322 yr not that these mean anything, since the fans vote I think they mean everything since the fans vote.
November 9, 200322 yr defensive play of the year is the one Ron Belliard pulled off vs the Marlins That one was good, even better than the Renteria play. And the bizarre plays were hilarious, that was the only one I had trouble voting for.
November 9, 200322 yr And the bizarre plays were hilarious, that was the only one I had trouble voting for. When that guy stepped in the batters box with an "Angees" jersey on, I couldn't stop laughing. I remember last year, when Millar's head-first slide into second (he finished a foot short of the bag with his legs flying in the air) was nominated for this award.
November 9, 200322 yr Author yeah, I remember that. That was the only good part of that whole series. The best part was when Robinson came out and yelled at his players
November 10, 200322 yr Author not that these mean anything, since the fans vote I think they mean everything since the fans vote. not at all. Fans vote multiple times and vote based on who they liked. If they had a poll for the best player at every position, everyone would just vote for whoever's on their team. Awards voted by fans= meaningless.

If they had a poll for the best player at every position, everyone would just vote for whoever's on their team. Awards voted by fans= meaningless. well, i guess you're both correct (or wrong) in a way. ultimately, what the fans feel should matter the most. however, there is no such thing as an accurate fans poll because of all sorts of survey bias. in this internet poll, not only is it easy as pie to beat the system, but because only those fans who have compelling reason to vote do so, there is a self-selection bias. there are tons of other types of bias (e.g. barry bonds is the first choice, who qualified and who didn't, internet access is required, etc), too. so i think there's nothing wrong with what the fans choose, but this particular poll is meaningless because it doesn't accurately depict the true choices of all fans. whatever, i don't care. i'm voting anyway.
November 10, 200322 yr Author I admit if there was a poll on something where a Giants player was involved I'd vote for the Giants player whether I felt they deserved it or not, and that applies to most fans. Or other people won't vote for someone because they don't like the player as a person.
