November 13, 200322 yr c/o rotoworld.com According to his agent, Vladimir Guerrero would have no problem signing with a New York-based team. It's always been assumed that Vlad would want to go to a town where the spotlight isn't quite so bright, but agent Fern Cuza said that's nonsense. "He's given me zero parameters on where he wants to go," Cuza said. "Usually, these guys are putting so many restrictions on the agent that you're boxed in. He is just telling me, 'Make the deal.'" Of course, it should be realized that Cuza would be a lousy agent not to try to keep the Yankees in the bidding even if Guerrero has no intention of signing with the club. As for whether the Yankees will actually pursue Vlad or not, it appears that they're still having internal discussions on the subject. Source: New York Daily News *I agree 100 with the analysis of the agent's comment. Rather than attempting to sign Luis Castillo, the Cubs appear willing to settle for Mark Grudzielanek or Fernando Vina at second base. Grudzielanek, who is recovering from shoulder surgery but is expected to be ready for spring training, likely will be offered a one-year deal to remain with the club. Vina could get a similar offer, although only one of the two will be signed. Source: Chicago Tribune *One less player for Castillo gives us a little more bargaining power. The Royals had hoped to re-sign Rondell White in the event that they lose Raul Ibanez, but that no longer appears to be a possibility. White wants a multiyear deal and has priced himself out of Kansas City's range. His demands will eventually have to come down, but the Royals might have their left field situation settled by then. Source: Kansas City Star *Could be a cheap vet option if Lowell is traded and Miggy is moved to 3B. In that event we'd probably sign a FA and put Abe Nunez out there.
November 13, 200322 yr Vlad wont sign with Yankees. He would be a fool not to use their interest to drive his price up. Cubs traded away their 2B prospect, Bobby Hill to the Pirates. I dont think they had any belief he would be taking over at 2B for them, but I am not surprised they dont go for Castillo. I am surprised that they would sign Vina - his OBP has been in steady decline for the last few years now. You have got to be joking with White. He is Cliff Floyd Light, all the injury, none of the upside. Too much money for a mediocre player. He's got talent, but you will never see it. If the Marlins traded, dread the thought, Lowell, I dont expect we will see White anywhere near the picture.
November 13, 200322 yr Author The Lowell/stadium rumor is true Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel: "According to sources familiar with the process, early talks regarding a contract extension for arbitration-eligible third baseman Mike Lowell have centered on a one-year deal. An additional three years, through 2007, would be contingent on the club getting a new stadium, presumably by its March 15 deadline."

Unless the one year deal is more than 8 million that he will command throught Arbitration. For some reason this doesn't seem logical to me.
November 13, 200322 yr so do the Royals think they can re-sign Ibanez then? I wonder what kind of money he's looking for. Probably more than the Marlins want to send his way, but that would be a nice lefthanded bat in the lineup.... I've heard McKeon say numerous times that a lefthanded bat is his one wish when he consults with the front office about the offseason moves. (not that it's a shocker or anything...)
