Apparently Rev. Pat Robertson, the grand poobah of Trinity Broadcasting and The 700 Club, and Danny Glover, buddy-cop actor and rabid Chavista, have something in common: both claim the Haitian earthquake is divine retribution.

Robertson claims that the people of Haiti made a pact with Satan to get out from under the thumb of the French at the turn of the 19th century. (He claimed Napoleon III...it was actually Napoleon I.) He said that the extreme poverty and hardships they have suffered for the past 100 years are also part of that.

Glover claims it is Mother Earth's reaction to the failed Copenhagen climate summit.

Either way, they both are douchebags.

The difference, of course, is that one has a nationally televised television program from which to broadcast his hate and the other is about as culturally relevant as Gary Busey.

Yes, both are douchebags. But they aren't comparable, really.

It's a fallacy of our modern media that every side has to have equivalents, but Danny Glover is not the left wing equivalent of Pat Robertson.

Pat Robertson is not nearly as prominent as you think (nor as prominent as he thinks, for that matter). And his market, while nationwide, is very niche. Stupid comments notwithstanding, more people could probably recognize Danny Glover.
