November 15, 200322 yr I'm really not too good with the whole offseason type thing. The whole deal about contracts and money and arbitration just confuses the hell out of me :confused So I was wondering what's up with Alex?? Nobody ever really mentions him. Is he gonna be with us next season? How much is he gonna make? Can we trade him? What's his contract?? If someone can clear this up for me, thank yah!! Oh yeah, and also post your opinion if you'd like to see him stay or not
November 15, 200322 yr he will be back with us next year. he's relatively cheap, he's an outstanding defensive shortstop, and they're willing to wait and hope he learns to harness his "good" streaks at the plate. not to mention there isn't much of a market for him, so we really wouldn't be able to get much. he's contracted with us, and he should be fairly cheap next season. typically we only try to trade players who are on the expensive side. alex isn't a problem there. i'm not sure how much i want him back, but because he won't make much and there might be hope of him learning how to hit, i guess we don't have much of a choice but to keep him. i'd be shocked if he isn't with us next year.

Well obviously angel your not a Gonzo fan but he is the best defensive shortstop in the league. :banghead Those stats don't make up for the intangibles that the infield needs at shortstop like trust for example. If you know you have a good defense behind the pitcher, that can only make the pitcher more confident.
November 15, 200322 yr Author IMO I don't mind keeping him if he's pretty cheap anyway. I thought he was an outstanding shortstop, yes he might have had errors but that just happens with SS, they can't be perfect. And at the plate, well let's just hope he produces like he did in the first half last year

He is consdiered the best defensive INFIELDER in the NL.
