November 16, 200322 yr No offense to those who drool on Vlad... but I prefer to resign the core of this team long-term than to worry about dumping guys for Vlad.
November 16, 200322 yr with my idea, we could keep most of our players for $57mil(including Hampton and Pudge's deferrals) if you add in Luis at $5mil a year, its still only $61.5mil take a look below
November 16, 200322 yr we have to get rid of some of the players anyway..... but not for the sake of making room for vlad and his contract... we are getting rid of players to get rid of salary and keep it off EXACTLY
November 16, 200322 yr Ramp, nice pic of Warrick - representin' FSU, baby! Anyway, like you and I have discussed, I am not totally sold on Vlad coming here. Even saying that though, I feel like something is going to happen. I think your plan is sound, but I think there should be some different personnel involved. First, KEEP PENNY. Yeah, the guy is lazy sometimes, but he showed me something in the WS, and I want to keep him now. Trade Redman. Let Luis go and let Pudge go. We can trade Lee for a replacement for Castillo (Brian Roberts, Orioles) or we can sign a FA like Reese and still save heaps of money. Pudge, replace him with Castro. If Castro gets locked away (which I dont think will happen), replace him with Redmond and another catcher. We lose offense, but we save money. With Lee, Castillo, Pudge and Redman gone, we have plenty of money to sign Vlad, Lowell, Burnett. We may even have enough money to go out and get some of these bullpen guys we need like Baez, Lightenberg and other such talents tossed aside. With Vlad, our lineup will be formidable: Pierre A Gon Lowell Vlad Cabs Conine Hooper/Medrano/Reese/Young/Roberts Castro/Redmond I think A Gon batting 2 would be a good thing for him - his offense may be more on par with the 1st half of this past season than the 2nd half. You could even flip-flop Vlad/Lowell and Co9/Cabs. With our pitching, we will be very, very good.
November 16, 200322 yr Some very good ideas, but what are you guys assuming Vlad will go for?...and I suppose his acquisition would offset the PR hit from losing Castillo, Lee, and Pudge.
November 16, 200322 yr Is penny gonna lose some weight this off-season? If not, the pitching mound will sink below sea-level when he's pitching.
November 16, 200322 yr Is penny gonna lose some weight this off-season? if he dosen't than i say we get rid of him.

November 16, 200322 yr We did talk about O.Cabrera last off-season. It would be good to have him. He plays very good Defense and has a way better bat than A.Gon. But how much is he asking for or wants?
