Posted June 9, 201014 yr JUPITER, FL (June 3, 2010) - Jupiter Hammerheads reliever Jhan Marinez and first baseman Ben Lasater have been named to the 2010 Florida State League South All-Star Team. The All-Star Game will be played at Space Coast Stadium in Viera, Florida on Saturday, June 12th at 7:35 PM. With 38 strikeouts in 22.1 innings, Marinez has the highest strikeout rate in the entire Florida State League. The righty has allowed just 10 hits in 70 at-bats, holding batters to a .143 average, third-best in the league. Marinez signed with the Florida Marlins out of the Dominican Republic in 2006 and experienced a breakthrough season in 2009 with the Hammerheads, striking out 42 in 43 innings. Going into this season, Marinez was rated by Baseball America as the Marlins' #10 prospect. He was voted to the All-Star Team by the managers, official scorers and beat writers of the league. Lasater was named to the team as a replacement today, his case strengthened after a third-consecutive multi-hit, RBI night. The first baseman leads the Hammerheads in hits, RBIs, total bases, batting average and on-base percentage, is tied for the team lead in doubles, and tied for second on the team in home runs. Lasater has now been a mid-season All-Star for three straight seasons, at three different levels (New York-Penn League 2008, South Atlantic League 2009). He led the 2009 Greensboro Grasshoppers in hits, RBIs, home runs, and runs scored. Lasater was the Marlins' 29th round pick in 2007 out of the College of Charleston. June 9, 201014 yr Wow, Laseter? Never really took much to make the minor league all star games did it.
June 9, 201014 yr Wow, Laseter? Never really took much to make the minor league all star games did it. It made me look at Jupiter's stats, and made me realize that all the hitters in Jupiter are having terrible years, pretty much. At least we have some good pitching prospects pitching well there. Marinez has to go to AA soon.
June 9, 201014 yr Speaking on Marinez. Matt Peterson and Doolittle aren't young and are pitching well, I'd guess they'd be the next to move up to AAA after someone gets released there. Marinez needs to be moved up this is too much. There are a few guys I might just release from AAA right now to call one of those AA guys up just to fit Marinez in Jacksonville.
