December 3, 200322 yr that it took the SEC until 2003 to hire it's FIRST black head football coach. If they weren't racist at Alabama, Sylvester Croom would be their head coach, but no, they went with the good old white boy Mike Shula (who BTW wasn't as qualified) instead. Now maybe my opinion on Alabama isn't entirely true, but the fact that it took until now for the 1st black SEC football coach speaks for itself, and is IMO pathetic.
December 3, 200322 yr Me being a Packer Backer, I know that Croom is definitely more then qualified he was our Running Backs coach the past 4 years and will finish this year in that title. Miss. State is getting a great coach and I wish Sylvester nothing but the very best! Good luck Sly!
December 3, 200322 yr the sad part is that he's taking a job that could come with penalties from the NCAA so the school might face a serious struggle in the future to win and i dont know how patient people will be with him, so some people may think of it as he's being set up to fail (which is how i thought about Marvin Lewis having to take the Bengals job). im still shocked that it was a mississippi school that became the first
December 4, 200322 yr get crap 4 what cuz he told the truth man... if any body on this site doesnt agree with the statement you just made MAGZ, well than there stupid or Racist..... cuz everything you just said is so f***ing true... i am also shocked it was Mississippi school to be da 1st
December 5, 200322 yr Jim Rome made a good point. Of I-A schools there are only 5 black head coaches, and 1 in Division I-AA. I-AA being home to a large number of historically black colleges.
