Rangers waive Julio Borbon

Featured Replies

The Texas Rangers have placed outfielder Julio Borbon on outright waivers Wednesday in advance of the 2 p.m. ET deadline, a major league source said.

Interest in Borbon didn't materialize enough to get a return in a trade, the source said. The Rangers had been hopeful Tuesday that there was enough interest in Borbon to complete a deal.

The Rangers designated the 27-year-old outfielder for assignment last Tuesday when they called up pitcher Nick Tepesch.

They had 10 days to trade him or put him on waivers. Borbon has to clear waivers before the Rangers can send him to Round Rock, but that is not expected to happen

Thoughts?

He's a relatively young, cheap outfielder who has good speed and has shown he can hit a little at the major league level. I'd love for the Marlins to try and claim him.

We have a relatively cheap, young outfielder who has shown he can hit a little named Chris Coghlan. No thanks.

Won't need him, anyways, once Yelich comes up.

Chris Coghlan blows.

Wake up and smell the s*** on your doorstep, Michael. Chris Coghlan has a nice .394 OPS in the past 2 years/53 games.

I wasn't complimenting Coghlan, at all. What I was inferring was that Borbon is what we DON'T need.

And gave a comparison in Chris Coghlan, saying that he is the same thing [minus the speed] that MMP described.
